Anyone know how to check shutter count ?

Anyone uses the sigma 12-24 lens on the 7D? I am thinking of getting this lens so that I can use on both my 7D and 5D. Not sure if this will be a good choice for a wide angle on crop.

If you have, please post some pics taken with this lens on 7D. Thanks.

Anyone can list some of the "must-haves" of the Canon EOS 7D? :D

I think the 15-85 was designed to complement the 7D

There's no must have lens imho, it will depend on your shooting style but to start with, I guess an all around zoom lenses would be a good option such as:

17-55
15-85
24-70
24-105.

I myself contemplating on the 15-85 or the 24-105 ;-)

I have the same setup as you (5D and 7D). I have considered buying the 12-24 lens as well and in fact rented a copy last September. The photo below is an example of a shot I took with the rented Sigma on my 5D. I did not use it with my 7D.

I am now reconsidering the Sigma 12-24 in favour of the Sigma 8-16 for the 7D. Photozone rates the 8-16 as the best of the UWA's. I understand that I will not be able to use it with my 5D but I already own the 17-40 so I don't feel that it is a huge deal. I also understand the issue of filter use.

Another advantage of the Sigma 8-16 is the fact that it is cheaper than the 12-24. Anyway, I am in no hurry to buy and will consider purchasing one or the other in the future.

Must haves?:
1. Canon 17-55 (general walk-around lens)
2. Sigma 8-16 (uwa)
3. Canon 70-200 IS (either f/4 or f/28, depending on how much weight you're willing to carry around and the degree of low light photography)

With this setup your covered from 8mm to 200mm

Other considerations:
Canon 100mm for macro work
Canon 135mm for great sharpness and bokeh
Canon 100-400 for ultra long distance photography

Other non-lens considerations:
Good quality tripod for night photography
Canon 480 or 580 flash
Remote switch
Polarizing filter

Also using phottix cleon II as well. Good thing here is should you change your slr body, u can just change the wires that attached to ur camera without the need to buy the whole wireless set.

Yes, Phottix Cleon II remote control here too. Better than the Canon equivalent IMHO. Works very well and is versatile meaning that it can work with many other models.

That would sacrifice the hotshoe. What i i need flash? How u guys mount it? Thanks

I just let the wireless receiver hang or looped in somewhere in the slr body or the ball head. It doesn't need a line of site to function anyway

The wireless receiver doesn't need a line of sight with the remote as such u can hang it or loop in somewhere within the ball head or slr body.

Any reasons why you guys do not use the canon ir remotes?

has limited range and I guess require's line of sight. i haven't tried using one for canon but my experienced with nikon, there's always a delay and requires LOS

That's right. If you install the Canon IR on your hotshoe, due to the line of sight requirements you have to be in front of the camera to engage it. The Phottix uses radio waves and can be engaged at any position around the camera. If I remember correctly, the Phottix is also capable of a much longer reach than the Canon.
