Hi guys, I have a few question regarding wireless flash settings.

I understand that 7D able to do wireless flash settings. I pair up with my 430ex flash and put it as slave and adjust the setting so that only my slave flash fires.

My question is, even tho I already set the setting to use slave flash in my 7D settings,
my inbuild flash still fires.

I've seen youtube video tutorial and the narrator say the inbuild flash WOULD not fire

i think it will fire off to trigger but it won't affect the exposure. correct me if i'm wrong

hmmm..
it wont affect the exposure?
that I thought so too.
but I can't be sure because both lights fire.

U can choose the mode. There are 3 modes. One of the mode only fire the triggered flash and not the on-board flash.

You've misread what zeehamazah meant. Even set to external flash fire only, the onboard flash will still fire albeit at very low power. This is used to trigger slave flashes. Cover the onboard flash and you'll see the slave won't be triggered.

Didn't really notice that. Thanks for the correction, I always think that it will not fire.

Sry if it's a repost. May i know if i use a pop up diffuser to diffuse the pop up flash, will it affect the wireless trigger?

If you have a diffuser over the onboard flash, you are going to fire it right? In that case, even after diffusing it should still be brighter than if it is set to not fire.

what's the point of diffusing the pop up flash if it wont even show. it fires off to trigger the off cam flash. no?

And I just got my 7D today. Sweet~ will be testing out this baby once I get the chance to do so.

Hope the learning curve to learn this isn't too steep, coming from a 450D background. =]

i've been using 7D for some month now and realized that my old 550D generates less noise than 7D, which is illogical for me, then i search for some information in the net and make a conclusion that shooting RAW+JPEG (my 7D default) and JPEG only (my 550D) definitely different in terms of chroma noise, so i tried to shoot 7D with JPEG only and surprisingly the chroma noise is gone, so is it true that RAW will generate more chroma noise than JPEG ? for reference i am using DNG converter from adobe, since someone said DPP is better, i'll try DPP tonight.

i'm still not sure about pixel density of the photo for i see that my 550D result is less blotchy when enlarged.

if anyone encounter this problem or have experience with this, your sharing is very appreciated

Hi,

the JPEGs created is normally processed (adjusted, smoothened etc) by the algorithm in camera. The RAW files are taken as it is. I am wondering if you shoot both shots under the exact same conditions (ie: lens, exposure and ISO etc.) to be able to have a fair condition. And you need to do a lot of tweaking in RAW.

I don't like to use JPEG at all considering the lack of options to process and tweak.

Maybe it is just me.

Coming from 40D, the learning curve is not bad.... NOw learning to do all the custom settings...

I can do a comparison with my 450D. I do most of my shoots with RAW and JPEG.

I think the learning curve is damn steep. Didn't even know how to take a video!! LoL but the custom settings are a bother.

Hey guys, new 7d user here. What AF do you usually use to cover indoor events? I'm using a 30mm 1.4? Any advise or tips what's the widely used af?

Single Af at the center is the most commonly used af point. I personally use that 98% of the time. The other 2% I switch to other systems if I absolutely need too, even on my 7D.

Hi, I am choosing between the 17-40mm and the 24-70mm lens for my 7D or should I get a prime lens instead (if so, what do you suggest)? My main purpose of buying these lenses are for landscapes and food photography. What are your suggestions and comments when it comes to choosing between these lenses for that need?
