I attached the EF 24-105 f4 L nowadays for general walkabout and EF 70-200 f2.8L non IS for assignments.

Lenses I have is Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6, Canon 50mm f1.8, pretty much a balanced range without any overlapping.
Commonly use the first two, last one mostly during night streetshoots or otherwise giving myself a challenge =)

Anyways anyone have a comparison between the telephotos amongst the Sigma, Tamron and Canon? I kinda wanna know from the ground which has a better performance.

I am totally fine losing value. LOL. Important is if D7000 is better than my 60D or not. If its not I will go to 7/5D

d7000 - definitely better image quality compared to 7D and 60d- iso is comparable to 5D2!
iso3200 noise is not an issue. even the dynamic range is comparable!
im a canon user - but for people who are starting out and have a budget for a mid level cam - d7000 is the one i
recommend (especially to the guys, the 60d or d5100 i recommend to the gals - they really like swivel lcds)

SO if you go for IQ - get d7000. no need for a 5D2 unless you want more background blur or bokeh.
But if you want a more pro feeling , faster FPS , better build - then get the 7D (its better than a nikon d300s)

The 5D2 , i only recommend if you know what your are doing and can live with dated features - lower resolution lcd , slow fps, crappy old AF. You will definitely notice this because you are already using a 60D.

I am assuming that you are referring to the larger telephotos as you make no mention of which class or size. If that is the case, the following web site is what helped me make my choice:

http://www.juzaphoto.com/eng/articles/canon_100-400_sigma_120-400_150-500_50-500.htm

I hope that you find it as helpful.

Hi every1,

As I would very much need a ~300mm F4 range for an upcoming concert event, I cant decide between 2 options that I can choose from. Would any kind soul help me in my decision making?

Option 1) Canon 70-200mm F2.8 Mk II L IS + 1.4 Teleconvertor
Pros) I have an option to fall back on the native 70-200 should i realise that a 280mm focal length is not actually needed
Cons) Image quality drop (however the 70-200 mk ii has insanely sharp optics so I am unsure of what the final quality will be with a teleconvertor)

Or should I just stick with a native 300mm F4 L IS lens and tug along an additional 70-200 F4 as backup?

I just traded my 40D and 5d mkI for a 7D. I came from 300D, then 30D, 5D and 40d (as a back-up).

I must say the learning curve from 300D to 40D is not steep. Quite easy to get used to the functions. 5D is a different animal, need time to get used to the full frame.

The main reasons I traded the 5D for the 7D is performance at low light and better AWB. ISO 1000 and beyond the noise seems lesser on the 7D. At low ISO, FF is till the king.

But when I got the 7d, I'm amazed at so many new functions (video, ALO etc).

I'm still getting to know this new toy.....

Congratulation! Yes, I agree, the 7D is an amazing machine! Compared to the 5D it is night and day with respect to functionality, but the 5D holds its own with IQ.
