Good value for money macro wld be the tamron 90 f2.8 I believe you can get it at a good price in bns. As for zoom lens, it really have to depend on your requirement.

Thanks. I will check it out the lens.

If there isn't any need to buy anything, then save up first.

Macro and Zoom (I assume you mean telezoom) does different thing... 'Macro' lens allows you to focus nearer to the subject. e.g. 30cm while typical tele zoom lens allows you to only focus at least 90cm from it.

Yeah. Thanks for the explanation. will save up money at the moment first before slowly getting macro or telezoom to use. The camera will be use for street/event and landscape photography. Just wondering whether the included kit 2 is it sufficient for these ?

Have fun =) if you find the images pleasing then yes, it is sufficient! =D

Thanks for the image links.

Wow, the images are really not bad from the standard 18 to 135mm lens, sharp and clear. Guess I will learn and make good use of it.

One last question : is canon EF40mm f/2.8 STM worthwhile to get as well ?

The worth of the lens depends on how much you think it's worth. Best that you find out what you need, rather than ask if X lens is good or Y body is better etc. To some people, it's the best lens to them, cos it suits their shooting style, but it may not suit yours, so it may not worth that much.

digitalrev reviews are always interesting, so you may wanna check out this link Canon 40mm f2.8 STM Hands-on Review - YouTube to get an idea. do note that 40mm, used on a 1.6x crop sensor is around 64mm in focal length. you may also like to check the flickr page for this lens to see what people mostly shoot with it, and if it fits your style as skystrike mentioned.

When you zoom in to 1:1, the quality is nothing to shout about.

well, I did checked out and read the lens reviews and videos from various website review and video including above video first before I posted my doubt regarding about the lens, due to I still quite confused about the lens , as just that some of the reviews i had read mentioned that the lens is more suitable for full frame sensor as compared to APS -C senor thus posting up the questions.

As per quoted " For full-frame owners though, the EF 40mm f2.8 STM is a much more attractive prospect." "So while I wouldn't recommend it to most cropped-frame Canon owners unless they're desperate for the smallest lens, it genuinely makes sense for full-framers: small and light, great quality into the corners, and a focal length that's ideal for general-purpose use".

I remembered I watched the above video, the guy always mentioned that a zoom lens is not that appropriate for street photography as the lens is huge and big in size , it make you look like a "pervert" while taking the shots on the streets.

I know that each person has different need and usage of the lens.

The worth of the lens depends on how much you think it's worth. Best that you find out what you need, rather than ask if X lens is good or Y body is better etc. To some people, it's the best lens to them, cos it suits their shooting style, but it may not suit yours, so it may not worth that much.

I guess I will go do more research and find out more about the lens whether does it suitable for me, mostly likely will head down to the shop , give it a try before getting. Thanks for the advice. Well appreciated.

EOS700D + EF40mm f/2.8 STM (pancake)

Happy to be shooting again.

Once upon a time a Nikon 35mm film MF SLR (FM2) user. Stopped SLR once DSLR came about. Finally couldn't resist the urge. Decided to take the Canon path with DSLR. Totally new to the DSLR AF world since that period was filled by point-and-shoot and camera phone. I'm feeling like a beginner again. :D

Personally, I already made up my mind to go Canon if I picked up photography again, when I stopped Nikon SLR back then. And through my Nikon days, I know my needs to suit me, and my budget. So here I am with EOS700D paired with a 40mm pancake. I chose the pancake over the 50mm f/1.8 for it's size and weight. The image quality is not too bad either. I want to keep things simple. I wasn't planning on removing the lens from this body until I got poisoned by the PWP offer of EF S55-250 F4-5.6 IS II @$99. Well, since I have no other gears, I wouldn't mind getting that as a 2nd lens, not a world beater, but good price for decent performance. It will cost $199 to me, since taking that offer will mean forgoing $100 Taka voucher. As for the body, picked 700D over 650D since the 650D stock are at it's tail end of life. I could also have gone for EOS 100D for its lighter weight, but the price gap with 700D is too little making 700D more value for money.

Just to share some humble experience ... for folks starting out into this exciting world of photography, don't get too eager to buy this and buy that. Don't lose sleep over budgeting for the next upgrade. Sometimes, 90% of what you need to do with a camera, is already in your hands. Paying that much more may gain you just that few % more, go ahead if that values high in your priorities. After getting a good shot of a bird on the tree or a bee on flower with an expensive lens, many will just put away or sell that "investment" they made, at a loss usually. They may just go around with a light 50mm thereafter, or they force themselves to carry the expensive heavier lens knowing that they have a cheaper lighter one that can do the thing they want to do most of the time. Be happy with shooting, don't be obsessed over trying to shoot what you cannot with your current gears, or you are missing the point of having a camera in your hands. A handphone camera at hand is better than the DSLR still in the dry cabinet. Cheers! ;)

Just got my 700d, can't wait to explore it soon...

Wanted to get 100d (mainly due to it being the smallest dslr) but was convinced by the salesperson to go fot 700d as its more value for $$.

I'm looking for a faster card. Currently using the Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s. When I am doing sports/birds and shooting in raw, it takes quite a while for the card to write the images, causing me to lose photo opportunity. Thought of getting the Sandisk SDHC VIDEO EXT 45MBP/S(from a computer shop in sim lim) 32GB for $37.5(grey set, I am cool with that), I wonder will the performance improve? The Sandisk extreme Pro 95MB/s is definitely out of my budget.

Not sure abt the video ext.
Maybe u can take look at the SanDisk extreme, lower than extreme pro.
Just make sure it the current version, had a old extreme card which only 20MB/s.

Saw some a 80MB/s from one of the price list, it says it's a new model, but reviews from Amazon says that it's slower than the 45MB. Not too sure. Since starting photography I have always bought memory cards from computer shops, but are camera shops cheaper?

You can compare the prices but my gut feeling is computer shops are cheaper.

i also just got my 700D with 18-55mm kit lens today at Changi Electronics Hub at T3 - double GST absrobed ending on SUnday. Hence i paid a nett price of $950 for the kit.

Now contemplating if I should get the PWP 55-250mm lens or get the $100 Taka voucher. Personally I don't think I need such long zoom, but the offer seems tempting!

Good buy!

Regarding the PWP 55-250, I can only advise you to inspect the lens thoroughly before accepting. You know what they say about things that are too good to be true. I ended up with the Taka voucher instead ;)

Not to mention the new STM version have better image quality.

I'm not so sure about better IQ, but I would expect faster AF. Problem with steppers is what if you need half steps? They can't and they can only go to the next nearer step. But that's technicality. The stepper steps in the STM may be fine enough to give similar similar resolution to servo controls.

Hello guys, so my memory card blues has yet to end.. I went to one of the recommended camera shops today to purchase the Sandisk Extreme Pro. The shop said it stopped selling it and recommended me to purchase the new Sandisk Extreme 80MB/s since it's almost the same speed. I didn't purchase since I have yet to do my research on this newly recommended card.

Basically I shoot birds mainly and I shoot in RAW. I'm looking for a card that will allow me to clear my buffer fast. I'm currently using the Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s and it does take awhile to clear the buffer.
