Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part I

Hi guys,

I'm using 60D. I wish to get a good lens for walk n shoot. Can any1 recommend budget is ard 2k

You can consider the EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM. Very sharp IQ & nice colours. Weight also average and well balanced with 60D body.
EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM is also another nice lens but it's a bit heavy and no IS. If wanna get it wait for a few months more its coming out the MkII version with IS. But the price will be $2K+ which will be over your 2K budget.

just checking, r u guys gettng the slower class 4 8gb scandisk sdhc card with a small single clip, black with red corner and green interal bag? And a extra guide tat looks like a magazine?

According to several users here there should be a guide.. I emailed canon about it. Still waiting for reply.. as for the card, I think it's dependant on the shop but usually they give class 4.. take note however... class for is not fast enough for the video recording.. class 6 and above would be preferred.

i tried a Kingston Class 4 16GB on my new 60D just now and it records video just fine. was told by the camera shop staff saying the bundled 8GB class 4 (Sandisk) is not fast enough for video recording, so i top up a bit to a Transcend 8GB Class 10 card on the spot.

EDIT: Btw, are you guys using any photo backup device cum card reader nowadays? I have been lost touch of digicam for quite some time. Previously, there is this portable HDD casing with card reader capabilities with build in rechargeable battery - you can just plug in the memory card and transfer the photos to the portable HDD device as storage/backup.

Hi Xest,

Just wondering did you take the video in 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)? And what did you record? Is it fast moving scene? I tried to take a video of a remote-controlled boat going at high speed and the recording keep stopping with the msg "Movie recording has stopped automatically". Googled around and found that it's due to the speed of the card so went to get myself a Transcend Class 10 as well and recording works perfectly fine now. Personally I would just get a card with a higher class/speed in order not to be disappointed when you want to take videos and find that a class 4 might/might not be sufficient.. Just sharing my two cents worth...

yes, full HD. was just testing testing only - recording my kids jumping/running at home, not as fast as remote control boat but i dun think the "actions" are too far away.

Actually i think i heard that Kingston Class 4 can be used for 60D full HD recording somewhere here or at other 60D thread in other photo forums. I bought that card for my card HU as MP3 storage actually, but hearing that it can be used for 60D, i take it out for my new 60D. To avoid disappointment like you said, i tested it at home first before bringing out to the field for my kids school outing next weekend. ;)

Dude you will have to wait years before a 24-70 IS MKII version is(or will ever be) announced, there's not even an announcement for a 24-70 IS MKI. :)

Usually I settle for hoya. Filter is mainly to protect the actual lens.cost around 60 if I'm not wrong..

I second that. Hoya HMC has the highest ratings tested by lenstip in comparison to a lot of other brands including B+W. Good and much cheaper than B+W. Go Google for that review and see for yourself.

Guys, I saw from maxsaver.net that hoya hmc uv filter for canon 60d is at abt usd19. Is it a good buy?

Redeemed my 60D user guide from Canon. No questions asked. Just show your official receipt of purchase.

Sounds ok considering the conversion rate is about 1.19.. you factor in shipping costs yet?

Hi guys,

After playing with my 60d for a few days, I notice there is a dust particle in my lens. I am very new to dslr. Will it be fine? Can anyone advice?

Hi,

May i ask, on the 60d, would a canon 17-55mm image come out better than a canon 20mm or 24mm image?
