Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part I

In my opinion, I don't think that this is a bad photo. Yes, it is a little blurry but considering the distance and the fact that we are looking at a 100% crop, it is expected.

I would try the shot again with the same camera/lens combo in the very same location and in similar conditions (sunny and partly cloudy). But this time, put the camera on a steady tripod and turn the VC off. Take the shot with a 2 or preferably 10 second shutter time delay. Then compare the two shots and see if there is a big difference.

If possible take the exact same shot with a different lens, preferably a 17-55 or 15-85 (both of which are well known for their sharpness). Compare again with your former shot. This should give you enough information to tell if your lens has a problem with blurriness.

Of greater concern is the chromatic aberration in your photo. You can see strong evidence of it on the right side of the photo where the building sculpture meets the sky. This of course is easily correctable in PhotoShop.

Oh I see... So it is just me having to high expectations...
One thing I don't get though, u say turn of VC, what difference would it make?
Also, I don't have PhotoShop, can Canon's software do that?
If yes, how? Or can you refer me to a thread? I'm really blur at what the software Canon gave can do :embrass:
Thx!

lens with IS are expecting shaky hands.. when mounted on tripod, if VC/IS is left on, the IS/VC mechanism might try to compensate by slight movements in the xyz axis even when it is completely stable on tripod... that might cause pics to be not as sharp as u'd want them to be.

I agree... good explanation. Whenever a camera/lens with IS is used on a tripod, IS should always be turned off.

Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with DPP (I use PhotoShop), but try searching for "Chromatic" in DPP-Help. Perhaps someone more familiar with DPP can help you beyond this.

One more thing to help you achieve sharper photos... shoot in RAW. DPP will help you to sharpen them much more than with JPG.

Hey all,

Just a quick question...
I hv the Tamron 17-50mm lens, and the uhmm (I really have no idea what it is called) blurness at the sides seem to be much worse than sample images from reviewers...
Here are the images...
Is it just me, or is the lens faulty?

Sorry, those are bad photos. First the image quality, second the building is not aligned to the ground. I think 60D already have the electronic level asist, did you use it?

When shooting landscape, you need to use higher aperture value starting from 5.6 and above to keep the corners relatively in focus (sharp). Lastly, you should have bought the Canon 17-40L instead of that Tamron.

1. Not level can use PP lah... These pics are straight out of cam...
2. Kk Will keep that in mind next time ;)
3. That lens to ex leh... I no $$$

Anyone experience high chromatic aberrations when the 60D is coupled with a EF-S 17-55?

When viewing on a macbook pro, there seems to be heavy purple fringing on tree leaves. not sure if it's the sensor problem or the lens problem.

Also, do you guys feel the camera tends to underexpose?

I'll post some sample photos soon.

What LCD protector are you guys using for your 60D? I am currently using the normal LCD screen protector like those used on mobilephones... saw some threads on screen protector that there are some which are harder like glass / hard plastic which protects the Main LCD more (GGS, Hercules, ACMAXX) ... those are normally thicker and I am not too sure if they will fit nicely on our swival screen... any review or recommendation?

can go daiso to see. . cheap cheap . . haha

I want 1 as well. Went to Daiso the last time, did not see any. Its near the counter ya?
yes. . if u notice on the glass towards the entrance, there are posters indicating those screen protectors. You have to request for it at the counter.

I am using hercules screen protector, it comes in 2 pieces one for the top lcd (hard acrylic) and one for the swivel screen (soft type like those normal protector so there is no issue when closing). Hope it helps.

I noticed that the Hercules one doesn't fit very nicely on the top lcd. The lcd is curved while the protector is hard plastic which does not conform to the shape. So some sides will not stick. I gave up and used the protector as a template and bought a protector from daiso and cut it to shape.

Hey 60D newbie, I have done a search however couldn't find. Where and how is a wireless shutter release fOr 60D? Both 3rd party or canon. I was quote $58 for 3rd party one. Pls advice. :)

Ya couldn't found at canon web. Original CanOn wireless cOntrol Of other model cost $15 from canon web

Ya, Phottix seems to be a decent choice. Check with Sgcamera.
