OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 5D Mark III - User Thread - Part 5

Just got my gear last week. :)

Need lots of adjustment as I moved fm 40D to 5D. Starting fm the weight. May I know what type / brand of neck strap do you guys recommend or use ?

If neck strap, I think Optech classic does a good job if your lens is not very heavy... I was using it till my Camdapter SlingStrap (Shoulder strap) came.

Congratulations on your new 5D3! I once owned the 40D too.

Neck straps are a hard beast to recommend. It is really a matter of personal preference. Personally I don't like those shoulder straps that allow your camera to swing at the waist.

The last neck strap I bought was from the Canon Showroom at VIVO. It is black and simply has the name Canon (in white) on it. The strap is made of a softer material than the regular strap provided with the camera. It is a little more comfortable to wear.

Thanks for the inputs, guys. :)

Will check them out. Any other recommendation ?

Nice photo! Their playful poses really make the shot.

Please recommend a good monopod set (budget $150). Need to get one for my son stage performance. Most likely pair with 24-70 or 70-200. Thanks.

If you don't already have a tripod, some tripods come with a screw off leg that can be used as a monopod. Sirui is one of brands that has these kinds of monopods. A little extra cash will get you both.

Regardless, I would recommend going to TK Photo or Cathy to 'try' out all kinds of models to see which best fits your needs. I bought 3 different tripods 'blindly' by not doing adequate research. I finally went to a store and tried several until I found one that truly met my needs.

Sirui's video monopod series. Yes, both models are over your budget BUT even the lowest end model will hold up a 70-200 f2.8 lens with a MkIII body attached, without shifting when unsupported.

After shooting a picture in portrait, when viewing, how do i get the picture to auto-rotate on the screen when I tilt the camera to portrait ? I cannot find the settings for it. Or perhaps 5DM3 can't do it.
thanks !

Do you guys have any issues when focusing with the flash on?its seems to be a tad slower when flash is mounted

This seems to be true even with the 1.2.1 firmware update albeit faster.

Turn off the focusing light in the camera's menu and use the camera's own AF system to autofocus. Very easy workaround that doesn't occur to most people.
