I think i will send mine in to csc when they have come up with a fix. But also depends on how canon is going to resolve this issue. Put epoxy to cover up? Hope not....:(
Is it normal for light to leak into the camera from the lcd? Never tested in other cameras before but last night when i shine a torch on the lcd..the exposure value really change even without the cap?!! Sian half...

Well, according to tests from other users…this problem was also seen in the 1D4 as well as the 5D2 so it's not something new. Not sure only 5d3 then people start making noise.

If it is only fixable by "hardware" fix..would you still consider bringing down to CSC for them to "open" up the camera just to "fix" this issue?
I mean..after all the "horror" stories about how CSC handles the camera without caps…and i highly doubt they will "fix" in a clean room…opening up the camera will definately introduce unwanted "dust" intot he camera…who knows..they fix one problem, give you tons more?
I'm still undecided but given the problem isn't really a problem to me..i don't think i want to risk having CSC open up my camera unless absolutely necessary..am i alone?
Same sentiments...
Don't want to end up doing regressive testing on all functions of my cam every time it got back from CSC

Maybe Canon will give out FOC a roll of Canon Black Gaffer Tape. Hahaha

Maybe they will give me a 5d Mark IV.

That is not Canon's fault. That's Adobe's fault. Also, you can use Adobe Camera RAW to export the RAWs to DNG then use LR3 to edit.

Am using this method now though it may be a little tedious. Guess there are many hidden cost to upgrading if I were to consider upgrading Lightroom :bsmilie:

decided to put on the original strap, though i don't usually do this..

Canon said to be halting 5D Mk III shipments as it seeks to resolve light leak issue

Could there be a product recall?

How many people actually know you could do this?
I know i might sound stupid but i actually didin't know you could "choose" the lenses that are supported..i thought it'a firmware thing..didn't know you could update it yourself…after so long, now then i realised…so thought i'd share this since if i did not know about this, i'm sure there are others who didn't know too..

The 5D3 can store data for up to 40 different lenses if you load it into your 5D3.

For at least some of your lenses, you'll have to fetch and load this data into your camera the hard way so that the 5K Mk 3 can correct it:

1.) Install EOS Utility software from the CD that came with your 5D3. My software disc is marked v25.0.

2.) Turn it off, and then put the lens for which you need data on your 5D Mk III.

3.) Connect the 5D Mk III via USB, then turn on the 5D3. (EOS Utility will start by itself if its not open.)

4.) Click the "camera settings" option from the main screen of EOS Utility.

5.) Under the Shooting Menu (red camera icon) in the EOS 5D Mark III window that opens, click the "Lens Aberration Correction" line.

6.) A new, bigger window opens with a list of lenses.

7.) Check the lenses you want. If you run out of your 40 maximum, uncheck some of the lenses Canon had checked as default.

8.) Click OK.

9.) Click Main Menu.

10.) Click Quit.

Not stupid...er...cos I also didn't know :p

But the 5D3 shld be preloaded with lens profiles already right? Just need to update for new lenses (like 24-70 mk2) or those 'uncommon' L lenses like the super telephoto lenses?

I didn't know off hand too. Was surprised that 24-70L wasn't in my 1D4 when I bought it, then I went to check the manual to find out that I can select up to 40 lens profile and load it into the camera :p

erm.. I consider 24-70L and 70-200L F4 as common lens but it's not inside my brand new 1D4 :p

But I think 5D3 had the common L lens pre-loaded within.

For my case, it didn't have the 100mm f2.8 L pre-installed and various other lenses that my friends have that I might want to borrow down the road. So I just went in and added them to the camera.

Surprisingly, they already have the 24-70 II's profile in the list.

Glad to know i wasn't alone who didn't know about this "important" feature in the 5D3…they pre-loaded all the best L lenses in there…assuming that everyone who buys a 5D owns only the best L lenses haha..I always thought my 50 and 85 were not supported..I used those to shoot the most…but only yesterday did i realise i could include them as well…if only i had known earlier..but better late than never..

Actually not only is the 24-70mk2 in the list..i blieve the new prime IS lenses are there too…the list is pretty long..anyone fond any "new" unannounced lenses in there as well?

Yup the DPP from the installation disk that comes with 5D3 have the 3 newly announced lens inside the profile list.

Not sure if you guys know this, if you use Canon's 1.4x/2x extender for compatible lens, please kindly load them into your camera too as they are treated as different lens profile.

So:
- 70-200L f/4 IS USM
- 70-200L f/4 IS USM + 1.4x Extender
- 70-200L f/4 IS USM + 2x Extender

are considere THREE lens out of your 40 allowed lens in your profile. What a sucker :bsmilie:

Thanks chaps. More 'homework' this weekend! :p
