Er, another potentially stupid question...what's the difference between in camera lens correction after the lens profiles have been uploaded into the camera, versus the DPP software's DLO corrections?

I think Doodah has answered the question here. Not sure if that is what you are looking for answers wise.

Not exactly sure, but from what I know, Lens profile loaded into your cam is to correct lens distortion and vignetting only. LRO is unable to correct that, but it corrects other defects due to the specific nature of the lens (depending on the len's construction, whether it has flourite elements, aspherical elements etc) and the effect of a low pass filter infront of the CMOS sensor.

So if you want to have the ultimate IQ.. you have to do load the lens profiles to your camera, then send to DPP to process under LRO. :bsmilie:

Could there be a product recall?

They won't.

With reference to your question on whether Canon Singapore will recall the EOS 5D MK III due to the light leak issue, we wish to inform you that we will not. However we will contact you later this month to rectify this issue. Please leave us your contact number for our Service team to contact you.

Oh the in camera corrects corrects the vingnetting? But i actually like the vignetting for my 85mm at f1.8...it gives it a nice glow in the middle.
Here's an example of what i mean by liking the vignetting...i hope the Lens correction doesn't "fix" the vignette...

Hmm.. it's a manufacturer's fault.. Wonder what will their proposed resolution be...

Yup if you load the profile, it corrects vignetting. But you can disable the auto-correction from your cam if you don't want (ie, wants to shoot with vignetting effect).

I know..but i want it to fix the CA and not the vignetting…i guess i can't be too fussy haha.. will see what happens the next time i shoot with that lens again then..

Ah.. like that difficult leh :bsmilie:

The in camera profiles also fixes fringing although I find it doesn't totally remove them. I still had to use LR to fix.

Under lens correction, in-cam or in dpp, just disable peripheral illumination. IIRC, ca correction is a seperate function from vignetting correction.

You are right. Did a check, inside DPP, under the LRO, you can select whether you want to adjust for peripheral illumination correct and CA correction.

How many people actually know you could do this?
I know i might sound stupid but i actually didin't know you could "choose" the lenses that are supported..i thought it'a firmware thing..didn't know you could update it yourself…after so long, now then i realised…so thought i'd share this since if i did not know about this, i'm sure there are others who didn't know too..

The 5D3 can store data for up to 40 different lenses if you load it into your 5D3.

For at least some of your lenses, you'll have to fetch and load this data into your camera the hard way so that the 5K Mk 3 can correct it:

1.) Install EOS Utility software from the CD that came with your 5D3. My software disc is marked v25.0.

2.) Turn it off, and then put the lens for which you need data on your 5D Mk III.

3.) Connect the 5D Mk III via USB, then turn on the 5D3. (EOS Utility will start by itself if its not open.)

4.) Click the "camera settings" option from the main screen of EOS Utility.

5.) Under the Shooting Menu (red camera icon) in the EOS 5D Mark III window that opens, click the "Lens Aberration Correction" line.

6.) A new, bigger window opens with a list of lenses.

7.) Check the lenses you want. If you run out of your 40 maximum, uncheck some of the lenses Canon had checked as default.

8.) Click OK.

9.) Click Main Menu.

10.) Click Quit.

Thanks for sharing this, spinworkxroy. I also was unaware.

Someone mentioned that this feature was available in the 1D4... is it also a feature in the 7D?
