Just finished my walk-about at Funan for the 5D3 kit. Most of the shops except TK foto and Alan Photo have stock. Most have at least 1 piece and only John3:16 has more than 2 (I wonder why... :P). Cheapest surprisingly was at CP at Peninsula selling for $5385 cash. Hope the list below helps:

1) CP: $5385
2) SLRR: $5386
3) Song Bro & South Asia: $5390

All the price above are for cash sales and GST inclusive.

Forget about Bally Photo, HN and John3:16 at Funan. At least close to $200 more. That said The lady at HN I spoke to offered to throw in a brand new battery plus camera bag as free gift as well but total still more expensive than the shops listed above.

Sadly after walking around for so long with cash in my bag, I decided not to buy but to wait for a while. :( Heard from someone in my favourite shop the price would adjust further down soon. So have to curb my enthusiasm and wait for a while more.... :(

Bally Photo? after all the complaints and bad experience ppl really still go there?

I was quoted $5250 by a reputable shop. I believe the price will go down pretty soon as many camera shops are selling and in stock now.
The competition should drive the price lower and I really curious if such many people buying 5D Mark III with 5k+ but the 5D Mark II is just half the price now.

5k+ is with kit lens, so your comparison is not fair. If you compare retail vs retail for body only, not grey set, the price difference is about $1-1.1k. Or the 5D2 is about 75% of the 5D3.

Ask them dekit the ones with kit sell us body better la ~ now have to wait and wait for the next bunch zzz...

Yeah I know the reputation of Bally but just want to let people know how notorious their prices are.

I agree with the first part of your statement cos most of the places I visited quote me a higher price and when I said "xxx selling at $xxxx only", they immeidately say they can match the price. Song Bros and South Asia both did that. Only CP and SLRR gave me the outright price upon first ask. Alan Photo and Tk both quoted me $5390 but no stock so I think the are also. Lesson here is tha always ask around in Funan before you buy. Can save you a couple of hundreds.

Regarding your second statement, I agree with your first part cos that is the end effect of having fair competition. At the end of the day the consumer benefits (us!). However the second part I don't really agree. As good as 5Dii is, there are some quirks that was damn irritating and was properly addressed by 5D3. As to how much those improvements are worth, it is a subjective and personal issue.

My 2 cents. :)

I believe if you are a regular or long time customer, that is not an issue at all. You can try to ask them.

Actually, competition only benefits one party in the end, the retailer with more capital to absorb lower margins. Such competition may drive the market into a monopoly and customers would only have one choice to buy from. And who says the retailer can't jack up the prices into insane amounts since he is the player in the market.

Actually a free competitive market should have the consumers benefiting. Definitely it is not the pseudo-competitive model like SMRT and SBS. Think how much more efficient our transport would be if we let private bus operators to ply the roads. In addition, there is not ONE company having the resources unless it is a big company with deep pockets to buy up ALL the stock and able to dictate the prices, that is only if you discount Canon itself lah. :P

How come got red ocean vs blue ocean debate here. Lolx. C'mon, what matters is that canon produce a remarkable if not revolutionary camera here.. Probably there are ppl who disagree with me. But I will enjoy every moment of it whether I pay more or less. This is what I call positive consumer experience cause by self generated reasoning. Haha

Four Hundred.
I suspect it's because it's a JPEG, and then further compressed when I uploaded onto flickr. It wasn't so bad before upload.
Its a tad overexposed too.
I forgot to store the RAW when transferring to Aperture.

took 1800 shots tonight, and battery went down by slightly more than half. :)
