Oh no..here we go again…
then don't buy lor…if you think it will "affect" you that much..that because of this all your photos will turn out bad…i don't think this will bring down the price whatsoever…
A good photographer will not let such trivial matter bother him..

Yup. Perfectionists takes photos with the body cap on. Photographers like the rest of us use cameras with lenses.

Good for u. Can share some of your perfect photos?

I dun think is an issue... its just how sensitive the metering system. the readout value from the metering system could capture slight changes in the light intensity. maybe 0.01 . correct me if i am wrong. Canon might patch it to decrease the sensitivity.

I am not sure if someone has posted the link to this very detailed review of the 5D III which also compare features/ video/image with the Nikon D800

It is a very detailed review will take you sometimes to go through.....

yeap Canon better fix this problem before more and more people starts shooting photos with the lens cap on :dunno: I heard Canon might follow Apple's idea... free Canon bumpers for every 5D3 purchase!

jokes aside, I just had my first encounter with a 5D Mark III at Canon showroom, Vivocity. My experience:
- built is pretty similar to the 5D2
- AF is definitely much much better than 5D2
- silent mode is very good and practical
- image playback really needs time to get used to

May I ask if:
- the 5D3's AF points color can change from black to red? I find it difficult to locate the AF points when focusing on dark objects
- any custom functions e.g. on the 5D2/60D/50D/40D? The only custom function menu I found is the one to customize each and every functionality of each button on the camera body. Not really what I am looking for though.

I was tempted to get the 5D3 to compliment my 1D3, but after playing with the demo unit for 30 mins I am pretty firm that I will be looking for a 1Ds3/ 1DX instead of a 5D3. Owning the 1D3 for almost 3 years I have grown accustomed to the button layout, the solid feel, and its speed/ performance. 5D3 is in every and any way, technologically much more advanced than my 1D3 and I strongly believe 5D3's image quality is miles ahead of 1D3 as well. But then the 5D3 in my hands, feels like a high-end gadget than a serious photography tool. It just... feels different.

Just like you have been shooting with a 7D/5D2/5D3 for years and one day Canon slaps a decent FF sensor and all the high-tech technologies into a plastic 600D-ish body. The camera body in your hands feels really different if you get what I mean. Just my 2-cents worth. :)

I think what you're missing is the full-sized pro body. You are so accustomed to that feel that that anything else feels weird.

1) Yes. Under the Custom Functions, you can select when the AF points you have selected will light up. The default setting is, the AF point will only light up when the system detects that lighting is poor. You can change it to "always light up", so that the points you have selected will always lit as red.

2) Not sure what kind of custom functions you are referring to, but 5D3 is packed with quite some customizability, especially on the AI Servo system :p

I dare to say that 5D3 is pretty much superior to 1D3, especially in the technology and IQ department. In terms of IQ, it is also better than the 1D4 in the high ISO department.
If you are accustomed to 1D series, forget about 1Ds3 and go for 1DX. First thing, 1Ds3's technology is also VERY old, and the ISO department is seriously lacking when compared to 5D3/1DX. And I am sure 1DX's RRP is going to be cheaper than 1Ds3, doesn't make a single sense to get the 1Ds3

Once you are used to 1D series, I can understand why it's so difficult to look back. Performance aside, the handling feel is so different, be it vertically or horizontally. Battery grips can't just match it. The distribution of weight for 1D, when a heavy tele lens is mounted is also much better than a non-1D with battery grip. For your professional photography needs, look no further than 1DX (and I see you can afford it anyways).. ;)

first off, I'm merely a hobbyist like most of us in this forum. :)

Custom functions I'm referring to C.FNs such as:
- change front and rear dials to control aperture/ shutter speed in manual mode
- set mirror lock-up

I was trying to "configure" the 5D3 showroom unit to match my 1D3 but I can't find the menu page for the custom functions. The 5D2 and 7D that were on display has a dedicated custom functions menu. Maybe I overlooked this on the 5D3.

1Ds3 technology might be old, but it is still a very capable body. I rarely shoot at high ISO (even if so I have my 50L to take care of low light) and I don't need movie/ live view... I just want a solid and reliable body so that I can utilize my 16-35L better ;p Used copies of 1Ds3 are going for 3k+ USD on eBay... as compare to 6k for the 1DX. For S$4k my preference would be a 1Ds3 instead of 5D3/1DX.

One thing I am noticing with the 5D3 is that I am able to shoot in really low light and still get usable images at high ISO. Going up to ISO ranges that I will normally not use and in situations where the camera itself has problems focusing without an AF assist beam. Very impressed with that.

On the other hand, it also highlights the lack of a built in flash and therefore a built in IR assist beam. I am sure Canon just assumes that most will use a speedlite but the high ISO is good enough to go without and that just makes the omission a little glaring.

Other than that little nitpick and the fact that I will never be able to shoot with my body cap on because of the so called light leak issue, I feel that the 5D3 could possibly be the most well rounded DSLR on the market today.

Are you referring to the custom function menu which will have things like sub-menu like af, exposure etc. Then you can go into af to adjust different settings for af to focus when af is impossible, etc. I think canon has refreshed the user interface on the 5d3 and is moving away from that custom function menu. Can be feel quite awkward at first. In the past, joystick left right was used to navigate around the top icons(menu), now joystick is for the sub-menu. You can move around the top menu without going through the sub-menu by pressing the "Q" button.

As for the picture review buttons, I agree it is crap, when you first use it. Once you get use to it, it probably won't matter much. In fact, it is very convenient. You can set the magnify button to 100% and one press of that can help to check sharpness. There is a setting such that the magnified portion of the photo is always at the selected af point. In fact, you don't even need to press the preview button. From anywhere, just press the magnify button and you can check the crop. Again, I believe canon is moving toward this interface.

Can I ask 5D3 users here if your shooting style has changed due to more capable ISO performance like do u still shoot in low ISO if possible or allow it to goes higher like u don't care?

I still shoot no higher than the ISO I need. If I need just 800, i will use 800. However where in the past 6400 would cause me to worry a tad bit, now I’m fairly confident even at 12800, that I can get a usable photo after Post-processing.

I think the tech has reached the stage where I can say I don’t really worry about noise performance at the ISOs I need anymore.

Still waiting out for the Lightroom Raw Converter before I fully integrate it into my workflow.
