Have been shooting brids with 60D, 70-200 F4L IS and EC1.4, now with 5D3 I have a problem finding a suitable super telephoto lens for birding without breaking my back, 4 kg is max in my bag. I am keeping my 60D for the time being. Bro any suggestions. Tripod is out of the question as I travel and cannot bring heavy equipment. No problem waiting as I have busted my budget this year.

It might be better and cheaper if you trade your 60D for 7D instead of getting a longer lens.

But the 100-400 L IS might be a good lens too.

how does a 7D help in reaching out to the birds? when it's the same APS-C 1.6x crop?

100-400 IS L USM or 75-300 IS L USM with EC 1.4?

Not suitable as both lens cannot focus with EC 1.4 and even if I use a monopod as suggested, it will not be easy. Considered 300mm F4 and F2.8II but still dreaming, my Chrsitmas wish is the new 200-400 EC1.4 to be about 2kg and a new 400mm F4 IS to replace f5.6 and DO F4. Hope Canon is keeping tap on our forum.

Can take Kenko 1.4x TC, but you lose the AF when you zoom the lens (when aperture becomes >F5.6 on the long end) unless you are using Pro 1X series bodies.

Don't think so. Cheapest way is to buy from Daiso and cut to size. Only $2!

i second this option, quality of image still not too bad if not cropping too much (i used with 7D).

Actuallu the nikon body is ok lah.. Just the lens abit boring.. Looked like Sigma design.

I had some bad experience with some other brand card, and since, I use San Disk card only....

yup, sandisk. those who are in semicon industries will know better.

Try Kenko TC. Works with all lenses I have tried, ermmm including 35L lolz ;p
