Google the reviews u will know.
At 300mm without IS, it means u can only use it in bright day light. at 250mm with IS, u might still able to use it without flash at ISO12800.
Lens quality, 50-250mm IS wins as it has 1 UD element. The only advantage of 75-300mm USM is that it can mount of FF.

Just to share with all who are waiting for the official LCD protector for their 550D. I bought a iPhone Screen Protector, measure the size of the LCD screen of the 550D, cut the protector to the size measured and pasted onto the 550D LCD screen. cost me $6.50 (anti glare sheet) and my LCD screen is protected.

which program do you guys use to playback Videos recorded on your 550D on your computer? I've found that my default video player, VLC, is really rough and choppy, whereas QuickPlayer and Real Player does a pretty decent job?

Is there a way to change the Video output format?

Guess there are tons of video format converter everywhere...just choose one and use...if found free ones that are good maybe you can share with us!

Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player 10 with Matroska Codec Pack. (Haali's Mastroska Splitter, CoreAVC H.264)
Prefer Media Player Classic as I can zoom and pan my video within the player itself to inspect on quality. My screens maximum resolution is mere 1072 x 768, outbeated by 1080p. ^_^
