hi guys, just joined the DSLR world with my 550D w/ Kit :)
Just a quick question:
1) Is it necessary to take up courses to learn the basics as my intentions is to learn from friends, reading and hands-on.

2) I can focus on my object almost instantly when I use the view finder but when I use live view, the focusing takes awhile longer? Can see the lens move for quite a while.

2) That's the limitation of the liveview on dslr.
I noticed this too. An unfortunate incident recently happened in USS when the staff was trying to take our family picture along with the penguins of madagascar. I switched the camera's Live View mode because I was assuming the lady was unfamiliar with using the viewfinder. When the camera was having a hard time to focus (since the penguins were white and our shirts were also light-coloured), the lady gave up and told me to try again later because the queue was getting longer. So I just switched live view off and took my wife's picture with the penguins myself. :embrass:

at least take the free seminar from canon. that's what i did ;)

welcome btw!

Sorry for posing such a noob question, but what's the difference between a Class 4 and Class 6 SD card?

And how does it affect the performance of the 550D? Only the movie function right?

No worries, is better to use Class 6 if oyu are shooting HD movie, I used my Class 4 card come with the camera to shoot HD movie, it will stop half way while shooting.

Class 6 read/write rate is higher.

Yeah will be signing up for mine in june, currently in ns. :(

yay.. my ggs is finally here.. after that long wait.. was expecting not to recieve it anymore

Let me try to answer.

1) The viewfinder only covers 95%... if you use liveview it would be 100%.

2) That's the limitation of the liveview on dslr.

Hope this is help.

Thanks for the answers bros.

I would love to go for the free training soon! :)

Is it recommended to store the body and lens separately or it's fine to keep the lens intact? I only have the body and kit lens now and enjoy the convenience of taking it out of the EOS bag and start snapping away but would love to know if separate storage is recommended. Thanks.

just wondering whether I should get a lens hood ? is it necessary?

for a 550d body, a 18-135 lens, a ext Nissin flash, is the Crumpler 5 million home good enough ?

and anyone had found whether is there a OEM Third Party battery grip for our 550d ?

I've been using the free "Canon" 5MDH Crumpler ever since. If you're walking around with 2 lens (one attached to dslr) maybe a flash, cleaning kits, some batts. It'll be just nice. I believe u can also put a battery grip in there wif ur 550D. :)

Can a 550D mounted with a 18-135mm fit comfortably into the 5DMH Crumpler ?

Im deciding between a Crumpler 5MDH & 6MDH.
6MDH abit bulky for me.

Thanks for sharing
