Any bro here knws hk roughly hw much is sigma 50mm f1.4??? I use these as I'm doing lots of portrait shoot with lighting effects

Sighs...I kept trying to use my LX 3 to take shoots of my daughter but it seems that it is unable to handle fast moving objects...I just thought that perhaps with 550's faster shutter speed and higher ISO, I'll be able to take better pictures of her.

maybe what you really need its a easy to use compact like the s95, ixus 300, or sth more powerful such as lumix LX5 or G11....

the 550 has better iso capabilities, but to capture fast moving object, lighting is still very important.. without it, its pointless... the 550 shutter speed is not determined by the camera body itself.. it depends on the lens.. so you need to get a decent low light lens.. which means more money.. and to be experienced enough to know what settings to use to capture your daughter will need time.. meaning, for the starting part you are going to be equally disappointed in ur shots or maybe even worse...

the 550 is often labelled as an entry level DSLR.. but still the jump from a PnS to a DSLR means having so much more to control... if you aren't sure about the controls you aren't going to get the photos that you see people posting here and there...

you must be ready to take the jump, and devote enough time to learning and to read and to shoot... and you must give urself time... don't give up in 1-2 months...

if you are ready, go ahead~! but don't buy from IT shows.. just go the recommended shops..

Nice choice about the 15-85mm bro! I still miss the range sometimes..

haha... after using so many lens.. (like going find prostitute like that) hahah.. i think the 15-85 is good enough for me as a compact travel zoom.. of cos no 2.8, but i would trade off the 2.8 la.. i know the 17-55 is gg to be too bulky for me to carry around daily..

yup... but still saving $$

Best is to have both the 17-55 for low light shooting and 15-85 for everyday shooting haha :bsmilie:

no la, i will only use the 17-55 for dedicated events or outings etc... everyday use i will just use my primes for low light...

not economical for me to own both... i'm not a rich man... well at least not yet~! hahaha.. :bsmilie::bsmilie:

No they won't allow you to leave Singapore unless you have a minimum of 18 - 200. :)

Seriously, surely it depends on what you are planning to take photos of?

Bro learn, I jus bought my 550d n lens last thurs not frm comex though. I sold my samsung nx10 to my sis, thnks god she like it thus I invest more into canon. Initially when I first start w nx10 I was quite clueless but thru practice I practice n went for a Photograohy courses I learnt more n I knw I should invest in gd lens. Thus I only get d body but get. Etter lens. I'm into doing portrait, nw I have a softbox n a umbrella w 2 flash. Am very happy w 85mm f1.8 prime,d feel is not able to be compared by 50mm f1.8 but of cos burnt a hole in my wallet too. I'm nw aiming at sigma 50mm f1.4 nw for close range. In time to come if I'm really gd will eye at 5dmk2!!! Oh gosh !! Can die

so Galman.... if you wanna become a chick magnet get an expensive camera n lens..

and you can also show off that you're rich~! hahaha....
:bsmilie::bsmilie:

Aiyo, first i not rich and second, i think my wife will kill me lah hahahaa.....;)

not necessary to get so many lens. for me, maximum is 2. you can have 7-8 lenses, but at the end of the day, you will end up sticking to 2 lenses.

Hi All, i'm new here, nice to meet you all

Hi to all fellow snappers, need some kind advice as having abit of dilema over 2 lenses which i want to buy. They are namely 24 - 105 F4 IS and 17 55 USM F2.8 IS

Was wondering which of the lens would be a better everyday multi- purpose lens as later on i will be buying a lanscape lens, zoom lens and a macro so want a better multi purpose daily lens. My constraint is due to too price is quite near each other and one offers better ap stop but the other offers better focal range. Read up some info some say 24 105 not gd for 550D due to it is not a full frame and is only an aps body thus shooting indoors has got some issues like the zooms.

Was thinking the 24 105 offers longer focal range too but the 17 55 is a good lens for the 550D due to aps body although not as good made as the 24 105 but lots of gd reviews on the 17 55 USM F2.8

Im comtemplating on which to get and need some help probaly for the chaps here whom have use these lens. Sorry for the questions again as i think previously many might have ask this before. Thanks in advance for the advices rendered.

Maybe u would like to check this thread out - http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=752343

17-55 2.8 and 24-105 f4 are 2 totally different lenses. one is a low light monster, while the other is a general walk about on ff bodies. one is non-L, while the other is built better and has weather sealing, etc. and the list goes on..

seriously ar ? =(

First part not serious lah. But how you expect to get advice on lenses when you don't say what you plan to shoot? "overseas" isn't much of a clue.

For those who are new to photography, this ebook is good to master your 550D

You getting a FF camera? Then you have your answer liao isn't it?

However if that is your only lens, you have to stand far far away...... to take your photos everytime. Maybe a 17-40mm L or something similar will be more versatile for the time being?

FFA

Currently have a 18-55 and 50mm f1.8 for the 550d
