You can consider primes. The Sigma 50mm F/1.4...
Great info to share. Any good lens under low light..other than the 17-55?

Actually even when using the 17-55, u might still need flash. Even though it is f2.8, the shutter speed still wouldnt not be handholdable. It just depends on what kind of darkness u r shooting in. Lenses that are good under lowlight are aplenty..
24-70 f2.8L
tamron 17-50 (non-vc)
sigma 17-50 OS HSM
sigma 30 f1.4 HSM
sigma f1.4 HSM
sigma 70-200 f2.8 OS HSM
canon 70-200 f2.8L IS USM II
and the list goes on on on on on on ...
it just depends on your budget
Thank you for your recommendation. Due to restricted budget so just intended for a team of 15-85mm, 430exII. for general purpose...What you think?
I think that is a very nice set-up. 15-85mm gives you nice IQ in good light and complement that with the flash in low light. If you like to save cost, can consider Nissin flash. The Di622 is the equivalent of 430exII at half the price. I am using that now and it works great.
Or if you want true versatility, get the 17-55mm. Can get from CS BNS for around $1.2 - $1.3k. It is worth the money for the F/2.8 as some situations not very convenient to use flash.
IMO, if budget is tight, get the tamron 17-50 f2.8. Good and way cheaper than canon. So far so good.
17-55 is going at about $1500 brand new and $1300 for 2nd hand... so you really feel you need something so expensive and will use it well to justify the price, then go ahead..
if not its like buying an expensive car but you cycle to work and around everyday.. only once inawhile drive..
Woah that sure puts things in perspective, i'm just needing a decent starter lens to start learning the DSLR as i'm still a noob and the price tag is also putting me off hahaa...it like giving a ferrari to a learner who has yet to get his driving license, i can't even drive yet, let alone drive a super fast car....:dunno:

if you haven't get your license, u will only think of those basic car, like subaru impreza 1.5.
After u drive 1.5, u will think aiya... my colleague all drive 2.5 Turbo WRX zhng fuji exhaust... all become female colleague magnet.. Then u change 2.5 Turbo WRX.. but when u drive 2.5 Turbo WRX... you see your boss driving STI 2.5 Turbo... then what ?? change to EVO 10 ??
SO, what do you call NOOB ? If you want starter lens ? go for efs 18-55.. easily $110 off Buy and Sell... then buy tamron 17-50 f2.8..
Else what is the definition of NOOB ? I can own a 1DS mark 3 and I can say Im noob... I can be world fastest Civic EG6 driver.. but I can say Im a noob driver.. So what about yours ?
I can see those freaking rich.. driving super car.. but drive all in gear 1 road hog telling ppl hey I got the money man !
agreed, sometimes i prefer to turn on the flash on my 17-55. as for landscapes, i'll use a tripod. even my 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 II (non-IS kit lens) shoots better at ISO 400, f/7.1 on a tripod compared to my 17-55 handheld at ISO 3200 f/2.8.

i have a friend in school. whatever accessories I buy, he definitely get it the moment i get it.. well, let him be.. haiz..
how does he know what you get?? spying on you??
hahausually in school, to keep up with the maturity, we both of us usually talk about equipments. And I talked about gitzo tripod, he went back home and pester his father to buy for him when i merely commented on it. When he saw my camera with battery grip, he came with a battery grip the next day.. very irritating stalker..

LOL.... poor dad~!!
hmmm ok la, my buddies and i, we like to use different stuff... one is using a 7D with 17-55, one a 5D and borrow zoom lens.. and i'm using a 500 and primes..
seems like he really looks up to you and take u as his role model.
can see that you have a 28mm f/2.8. Why not consider a 28 f1.8 is there one ? or 24 1.8 ?
