ya there is... but no la, these two lens that i'm holding is for my own fun one.. to do shoots and all is to rent the lens to suit the situation...

the 28 2.8 is small and acts as my carry around everyday lens.. go watch movie with girlfren oso can put in my bag... i like it as it is..

also tried the 28 1.8, not really that sharp wide open.. have to step down.. so by the time step down, i oso shoot at 2.8... the 24 slightly too wide... and for a budget small person like me, the 28 2.8 was the choice...

in the future after i have earned enough to splash abit, will get my dream prime kit.. 24, 50 and 85 L...

i will just get the 35 1.4L and 85 1.2L if my dad sponser me. But right since I got no help and sponsership from my parents, I decided to take the plunge for a 17-50 2.8 and 85 1.8 end of this year in HK.

the effect in the picture that u get from a flash and from a natural light is quite different. different people prefer different kinds of pictures i guess.

As for the difference, sometimes u just cannot afford to carry a tripod around cos of it's size and weight.. so no choice something having a fast lens can help u get the picture.. not saying that it is better, but in times when u have no other choice. When i shoot events, the difference between flash + f2.8 and flash + f5.6 is quite different IMO, so u have to carefully see which one u like also..

sure, sometimes you can't carry around a tripod due to size. main point i wanted to make was that if you're really on a tight budget, even kit-lens is sufficient (for landscapes... i guess for events, the tight-budget approach would be kit lens+cheap flash, but probably you're stuck with f/3.5-4.0 most of the time). i bring my tripod primarily for when i'm going for a night landscape shoot, the recent one was the NDP Preview fireworks (which was done with kit-lens, not my 17-55 which was bought later). in time to come, will eventually get a good flash and learn to master flash photography... but am not doing events photography anytime soon (right now, it's just shooting baby photos indoors and a trip to Prague this month).

No they won't allow you to leave Singapore unless you have a minimum of 18 - 200. :)

Seriously, surely it depends on what you are planning to take photos of?

Hi Everyone!

A newbie here! I'm still at the point and shoot camera stage. Bought a Lumix LX3, got no idea how to use it and ended up having to sell it away. Someone just introduced the Canon 550 to me and I'm here to check out the thread. I will have to learn how to use a DSLR from scratch. Will you guys recommend the 550?

Yes it is a good camera for what you pay.

hey hey... if you bought a LX 3 and you sold it cos you feel you don't know how to use it, then what makes you think that it won't be a repeat when you get a CANON 550??

if you're just starting out and want to have a camera, its better for you to stick to a camera like a compact..

don't spend another $1000 odd and then have to sell again.... money isn't to spend like that one..

the LX3 was a very popular option but you don't know how to use, the 550 is also a popular option.. so you sure you will know how to use?

Sighs...I kept trying to use my LX 3 to take shoots of my daughter but it seems that it is unable to handle fast moving objects...I just thought that perhaps with 550's faster shutter speed and higher ISO, I'll be able to take better pictures of her.

Hello,

New user here. :)

Just got my 550D @ Comex Show.

Will come here more often to learn.

See you .....

Hi MyWhiteCar,

May I know how much did you get it for?

Frankly speaking d comex price isothing fantastic. If unthink d freebies like dry box or tripod is useful... I think it's nt! D dry box I understand frm ms or John is arnd 89 plus n d tripod is those fragile type. Worst is basically no customer services at all in trade shw with shallow sales ppl to issuer receipt only. Experienced users all frowned upon purchase of dslr in trade shows. I got my 550d body at d renowned shop n it's much cheaper n better service. Anyway i did my hm work n get d tampon n 85mm f1.8 prime n very happy w d results.

Hey fellow newbie! 550D is a good camera in my opinion cos I am using one. But honestly you will need time to learn about everything the camera have to offer. Else the photos you take will be worst then those taken by a compact. Have to invest time and efforts to grasp your camera. All the best man in whichever choice you make. ;)

You getting a FF camera? Then you have your answer liao isn't it?

However if that is your only lens, you have to stand far far away...... to take your photos everytime. Maybe a 17-40mm L or something similar will be more versatile for the time being?

Hope all fellow new users will enjoy d camera n grow with it... Hmm am nw aiming at d wide angle lens.... Plus the sigma 50mm f1.4 Is damn fantastic prime
