Yo, 10ks!
Found it!

Some of the people here mentioned buying grips from ebay. Saw them it was half price of what Canon Singapore is selling. ($200!!!)
Are those compatible grips as good as canon?

Also, I found a local seller selling 550D battery at only $14!! Anyone using it, any comments about it??

S$200? For 3rd party or original? 550D Phottix Grip on eBay is selling for S$105 with 02 x Phottix Battery only.

Hello everyone,

I am thinking of getting a UV filter and CP filter for my kit lens 18-135mm,
I have been checking out ebay, there are brand like SKDIGI and Octopus, which i am not aware of it.

Will appreciate if there is someone who can share with me what type and brand are u using.
Thank you in advance ^^
Proud new user of Canon 550D

Hoya HMC and B+W UV filters.
Will love to try Hoya HD filters 1 day.

Since you are still new with the DSLR world, stick to your 18-55 lens first. The 18-55 is pretty versatile in my opinion.

Shoot more and ask yourself what do you shoot often and then that's where you proceed to your next lens.

The 17-55 IS USM f2.8 is quite popular, cos of the constant aperture of f2.8, it's pretty essential under low light conditions, compared to the 18-55 kit lens.

Thanks for the advice!:)

yea the 18-55 IS is a huge improvement over the MkII and some reviews say it outperforms even the 17-85 IS USM. i find the 17-55 focal range too short so i chose the sigma 17-70. no regrets but would have prefered the OS ver of that lens

Sure, I will consider that when I am ready for the next lens. Thanks!;)

Welcome to the club :)

Thanks compgen!

Yo,

10ks everybody. I had found the video settings. Video quality is really good.
Anyone is using this battery?
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/GSS-True-112...m&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_216&hash=item2a0864a75c
$14 I really think it is a good buy. $28 for 2 pieces. But any issue for batterys compared to canon original? Canon original cost $80 when I ask at shop. So expensive!!!

Also, is grip a necessity? Will the camera be a lot heavier with grip?

Eh, soons,
what is PP and ISO?

3rd party batt and canon batt no diff they have the same batt life despite different mah ratings so juz buy the cheapest batt.

U will need the grip eventually esp when u buy heavier lens to balance

Hi,

Need some from the bros who owns a copy of calibrated Sigma 30mm f1.4?

Don't mind do a simple test. The test actually helps to determind if your lens has front / back focus. So it will be good for you to understand your lens too.

1) Download http://focustestchart.com/focus21.pdf
2) Print out page 18/19
3) Use your copy of calibrated Sigma 30mm at (Av mode, AF, f1.4), focus at the line with the word "Focus here".

I had take a copy using my Canon 50mm f1.8 II. The result is quite good as following.

Had tried 2 copies of Sigma 30mm f1.4, the result is as following:

canon550d007.jpg

canon550d021.jpg

Both show a bit of front focus.

Bro using calibrated Sigma 30mm f1.4 can advice if you have such problem? If can, post the photo taken.

Found a new way to fully utilize my 500D.

Lens: Canon 10-22mm USM
Video: 7x Crop Mode
Audio in: Connected directly with my Nintendo DS with a normal 3.5inch jack audio cable

Results: Uber video quality with superb stereo from my game!!!

did you buy already? calibration, you have to call sigma service centre, make appointment

Thankfully there's a service outlet of Sigma in Singapore. Tamron doesn't has any.

juz got back frm marina bay sands. the rooms are HUGE! the view was excellent but the pool was quite congested.

any 550d user lucky enough to have perfect SIGMA 30MM f1.4? I need the lens next week, but tested fews and all lemons.. will try other shop again this week end..

Did not buy. Went to test the lens first. Found that it seems to be a bit front focus so back off.... It is import copy, understand that Sigma charge for calibration for non-local set.

Just wanted to find out if those having calibrated copy encounter same issue. If yes then it could be "normal".

I have both sigma 30 & 50 f/1.4.

After calibration at sigma sg, the focusing is very accurate! it's very sharp even at f/1.4.

so, did you buy the sigma even it has focusing issue? and then you bring to sigma to do calibration?

Seems like almost all 3rd party lens have front/back focus issue. Go for calibration is the best. ;)]

Luckily, my tokina lens have no such issue. :P
