Guys, need some advice.

I recorded some videos in 1980x1080 at 30fps and also 1280x720 at 60fps. They can be viewed on the camera itself without issue, smooth and nice.

However they looked horrible on my PC. Either it's jerky or the sound seems to be "faster" than the actual movement.

I tried Windows Media Player, RealPlayer and Quicktime and also downloaded H.264 codec (ffshow) and all doesn't seem to help.

Anyone can help? Is it my PC too slow to support? But I tried viewing previous videos 720p(GF1 and WX1) and Nex-5(1080i), all seems smooth and ok.

I seriously suspect it's codec issue as I remembered used to have same problem when I used PNS IXUS870IS where they also started to use H.264 but i can't remember how I solve it last time.

try vlc player? then post process.

i seriously doubt its the video. just ur gfx unable to process it so well. you can try using a video converter to compress the video into xvid or x264.

You may also wish to try K Lite Codec Pack

could be the bit rate too high for ur com to handle. the video from 550D and Nex5 may have same resolution and fps but 550D bit rate could be higher making the video more laggy on slower comps. my quad core comp has problem buffering full hd (xp quality) video from legria if i try to skip forward, however if i dont touch it from the start, it plays smoothly throughout

hello everyone,

can i check if during movie mode?
Do we need to purchase a external mic in order to record the voice?

I am thinking of getting 550D for photos and movies.
Please advise

OK, thanks man. Yup, I do find the bit rate of 550D videos are higher at 50000kbps vs Nex5 of 17000kbps, probably that's the reason why my PC cannot really handle it.

Also a 1min video from 550D can go as high as 500mb...

no. there's a built-in mic.

yar man. i have to convert my videos and drop it to 8000kbps. 12000 is fine too. but i try to get the lowest that's pleasing to my eyes.

wah alot of cash hor... the batt of those 3rd party are overrated fyi, 5700mah = canon 1000+mah so juz go for the cheapest one, phottix batts seem quite good. u juz need 1 spare batt and switch between them unless u plan to shoot alot of video then get more batt cos they run out fast in live view.

nop no need external mic. bear in mind the video shooting not like camcorder or compact, the focusing is manual. for most lens using autofocus is too noisy so getting an external mic is a good idea

Welcome bro. I also came from ur ship. ;p

not only specs wise 550d is tempting, its high iso performance is something u never seen somewhere else (from my previous cams). I used to avoid iso1600 and above previously but now i almost always shoot at iso3200 with my kit lens only at home as it is dimly lit. Mind u i dun even noticed its iso3200 and only know when i looked at the exif!!! Yes, its that sharp and colors are well retained even at this iso level.

I am glad i took the plunge. Low light shooting has never been so fun and low cost!!! (dun hv to buy expensve primes)
