in my POV, 50mm F1.8 no need filter. 1st element is pretty deep inside.

i still bought a filter for it anw. a cheap filter too. wonder how do filters affect IQ or issit juz a rumor? the lens is convex and looks easy to scratch, thats why i boguth a filter

how does a filter affect IQ? dust? blur?

UV filter is to protect your front element.Dunno about IQ cos i dun have that lens.As for dust, every lens/filter will have one.Just get a lenspen or blower and clean it away when there's too much dust:)

Can define cheap?To some,a $100 B+W is cheap but to others,a $50 B+W filter is expensive...

i dunno about IQ. but lens flare does affect.

Hi,

anyone know where can I get a better price for canon eos 550D?
Must be first hand and local set.

Thank you inadvance.
Cheers

A really cheap and nasty filter could distort the image if the glass is not true optical quality.

A cheapo filter like the kind they might give away when you buy a lens should be OK optically, but it will probably be uncoated. This is likely to cause reflections from lights and any bright spots in the frame. It will also be more liable to show flare when the light comes from certain angles.

A good quality filter will be multi-coated to minimise reflections.

Does it matter? Well, it's your pictures, up to you to decide. I nearly got caught out doing an evening shoot at Universal Studios Singapore, with loads of obvious reflections of the lights showing up because of the freebie filter on my new lens. Luckily I noticed in time to remove the filter and reshoot without the reflections.

Dun need to run lah...sure got stock one:)

Heh, hard to say lei, that time after "research", found that SLRR got cheapest price and email them to confirm quote. Just before going down, luckily contact them and found they have no stock. So they reserve one for me and in few days time I got it. They even tell me they sell cheap as they want to push their stock out fast.

Agreed

Bro,

I saw your Thai fashion photos in flickr, very well taken! I like the sharpness and color saturation. Mind sharing the lens you used and if any post-processing was done? :)
