Official Canon 500D user Thread (part 2)

will different speed lens affect the video in 500D. let's say i have 2 lens 17-55mm F2.8 and 18-55mm F3.5-6.3.

everyone knows 17-55mm is a faster lens if we take photo, how about video, will it be more smooth if we use 17-55mm?

nope. The video will still record at 20fps at full hd. Lol.

Anyone using LCD hood or screen hood here?
I want to ask for your opinion.

Hi 500D'ers ,

Just want to know , what kind of item menus do you usually put under "my setting" inside 500D body ?

Guys , any of u join the 500D product training from canon ?

http://digitallab.canon.com.sg/selector_dc.jsp

I never join the training , i would like too , but i've failed when i put the date purchased form field , the page said that "Your purchase has exceeded 4 months" , #sigh ...

liauwsiauwlong,

Just an intro to the camera, its every function and buttons, which you could also pick up from reading the manual as well as the EOS 500D Guide that is available on sale from Canon Link at Vivocity.

HTH.

You mean under "My Menu"?

1. Exposure compensation/AEB
2. Highlight tone priority
3. High ISO speed noise reduction
4. ISO expansion
5. AF-assist beam firing.

Hi, i have a 18-55 and a 50mm 1.8.
Would like to query if lens hood is necessary? And under what conditions?
Buy original or compatible ones better? Price wise also.

Thank you!

The original Lens for the 18-55 is pretty useless, its coverage is pathetic. You're much better off getting a hoya retractable rubber lens hood. When its retracted it will serve the wide end. When you extend it, it will serve the tele end.

Getting the Hoya one (the one with the red band) is a good choice. And it'll only set you back 20-odd bucks from one of the stores opposite cathay photo.

See here for pictures : http://www.camerafilters.com/pages/lenshoods.aspx

Make sure you get 58mm for the 18-55. Not sure if you need for the 50 f1.8 but thats 52mm.

I just got my Canon 500D today! Wow, looks like lots of users!

I don't think its available for the 500D, only the higher XXd or Xd models.

limwsiauwlong, AF Assist Beam helps the camera to lock on the focus by lighting the object. Helps when I don't want to notify the subject I'm taking a picture and I use MF to do my focusing.
