just go csc and do a sensor remap. it will solve the problem it believe.

Actually 30L one is enough to put ur gear.
But for future expansion, you can either get a 50L or 60L or more depending on the gear you are tagetting to get in the near future.
totally agree. but i using 30l due to my room space...

now my kit is getting more. i really hope it will over load so soon. good reason to stop me getting more kits...

Post some pics so we can see what the problem is?

==> bro ShaneKua and all, please comment and advise how should I go about setting the camera to take crystal clear and shape picture.... something is just not right and I'm no where getting near in understanding what went wrong...

below pic was taken with the 50mm lens;
Shutter speed : 1/200
F-Stop: 2.8
ISO Speed : 3200

@UltraBear

What you’re seeing seems to be the result of a high ISO. I rarely use above ISO 1600 because i find ISO 3200 too noisy. The 500D’s ISO is respectable up to ISO1600. ISO 3200 is noisy as you’ve seen, 6400 and 12800 are really emergency use only.

Use ISO 800, or 1600, the lower the less noise. Choose either one, trying to keep your shutter speed above 1/80 since you’re using a non-Image Stabiliser lens.

Somethings to take note.

1.) Higher ISO means more noise. How much at each level depends on camera
2.) The MINIMUM shutter speed that affords Handheld shooting without blur/shake for a non-IS lens is 1/x, where x is the focal length of the lens.

For example your 50mm. It would need a shutter speed of 1/50. BUT this is assuming a full frame 35mm format. 500D is a crop camera with factor 1.6x. So you’ll take 50 x 1.6 = 80
Therefore your actual focal length is 80mm on the 500D, while the same lens would give you 50mm on a 5D mk2.

So your min shutterspeed on the 500D using that lens is 1/80.

Let me know if you need me to take some pics to show…

Hope it helps!

Hi,

I'm asking this question for a friend, hope you guys can help me out with this.

Camera in question is the 500D with 18-55 kit lens. We are looking to acquire some filters for it but are unsure about the correct filter size.

I tried googling and searching for answer here on CS but I'm still confused.

I hope no one shoots me down for this silly question.

Thanks in advance.

No prob, we all start somewhere? :)

Filter size depends on lens. You’ll see when looking directly at the front of the 18-55, on the rim it writes 58mm. That’s the filter size you need, doesn’t matter what camera.

For other lens it’s different, on my 17-55, its 77mm. On the 50mm f1.8, its 52mm

I see, thank you. Now it seems so obvious.

I see that some guys use step-up rings, is it because certain diameters are easier to get a hold of?

Not really, step up rings so that you can use filters of different size yes, but also because stuff like Macro/Wide angle add on lens come in bigger filter thread.

My take, Smaller filters cheaper, no need addition cost to step up to a large more expensive filter (unless this is the ONLY filter you have)

What’s more those Macro Wide angle add on lens rarely are worth it, very very soft on corners. Dedicated lens better.

And it’s pointless to step down to a smaller thread, because the lens was designed that size, any smaller leads to obvious vignetting (dark corners)

anyway more than iso 800, i find it too noisy liao...

anyway if you are shoot at F2-F2.8 aperture and shutter less than 1/60, i would reco to use a flash for the environment for better pic.

anyway this is a nice pic! if you shoot raw, u can soften the noisy. but the pic will a bit blurry hehe :)

is it good to have battery grip ?

maybe u can try manual cleaning senor . refer to your manual book :)

is it good to have battery grip ?
personally its good, but if you dont need the extra juice nor the added grip (for big hands) it will just end up as extra weight for you to carry... by the way it is also good for extra stability for telephoto lenses.. dont get one if you just want to look cool heheheh

Hi all,

Newbie here deciding on my first DSLR and lens that I should be going for.

500D is one of my choice but I can't really decide whether I should go for the Dual Lens or Kit II.

I understand the convenience of the 18-200mm and the hassle of having a dual lens but is that all the difference for having a all in one and dual lens? The choice seems too clear to be true.

Sorry I cannot really tell what kinda range I like to shoot at and what sort of picture I like to take but from the many pictures I see here in this forum, I seem to like bokeh shots and macro and I probably will zoom quite a bit..

Would like to hear some opinions from friendly CSers on the CONS of the above mentioned choice of lens and it will be great if you can share the reasons for choosing one over another.

Thank you in advance for your contributions everyone!

:D
