Sigma 17-50 can be compared to canon 17-55. You might be surprised to know that sigma is sharper than canon however sigma tends to be softer on the coners. The focusing of sigma is fast and quiet but not as good as canon. Some people prefers sigma because its lighter and cheaper. If you can get a sharp copy it is a good alternative to canon. Tamron also have a similar model but their model has noisy motor and it haunts in lowlight situation. Canon 17-55 is my walkabout lens And it has served me well. It is currently dubbed as the hidden "L" lens in IQ but not in build

yea review said so too....but it's kinda expensive :(

it's normal for someone who is just starting out to BBB. try curb the wants and focus on your needs instead.

in the long run, you will save more money without having to buy lenses which will be deemed useless to you.

my 17-55 is pretty sharp throughout the entire frame, one of the reason why i got it, cause' the 3rd party offerings are touted to be sharp in the centre and not as good as the canon in the corners.

USM is fast fast fast, no 2nd doubt about it. actually i feel that the sigma is pretty good, in fact better than the tamron, albeit at a higher price.

yea..trying very hard to curb the virus of spending......

If youre planning to go deeper into this hobby then go for 580 exii. This flash is more powerful and it is a good investment in the lomg run. Think how much dedicatiom you can put in photography, and determine which equipment suits your needs dont buy on impulse. Avoid the buybuybuy virus

will definitely consider....

Thx alot all bros... :)

Hi Bros,

I just wanna check if anyone had use the Canon Digital Professional to process your raw and how do we use it cos I'm totally lost :P Can someone also advise me if the Canon's "Basic Photography Course" is good/adequate to helping me shoot better or is there any better course out there?

Thx

I think you would be better off with the 55-250IS instead. Frankly speaking IMHO the EF 75-300 USM is one of the worst lens (in term of IQ) that Canon made in that focal length. If required, I would rather pay abit more for the 70-300 DO or L instead.

I just got my EOS600D and thinking of getting the lens promotion; ef75-300III USM.
However, been reading not so good review on this lens.
I dont wish to buy something cheap but not getting what I expect.
Should I just go ahead to get the 55-250IS?
I love to take scenery and people.
The Len comes with the kit doesnt give me enough zoom.

Hi all,
I'm new to DSLR and just bought 600D kit 1 with pwp lens ef s55-250 II IS 2 days ago. I admit that i did not do a proper 'survey' on dslr cameras and now i'm not sure whether i've made a correct decision by purchasing 600D together with the lens. Yet to take it out from the box and start shooting as still thinking to change it to another model eg 60D. I'm planning to use the camera for daily/normal use such as shooting portraits of family etc and will be using it together with my wife who is also new to DSLR.
Is 600D the correct choice for us to start with? And by the way should i stick with the s55-250 lens or sell it?
Really need advice from fellow 600D owners in this thread.

I did the similar thing as you 6 months ago hehe. Bought a 600D body from PC Fair, few hours later start thinking to change to 60D already. After 60D, maybe 7D, then 5D Mark II, and finally the 5D Mark III ;) Never stop one.

Don't upgrade if don't know what's your equipment is limiting you.

hahahaha, so bro ur advice is just stick with it n start shooting? you've been using 600D and how is it bro?errr and i believe u've got urself a very gd lens?

Bro, just open the box and start shooting. Forget the rest. Read the manual while you shoot. You will be laughing at yourself when you look at this post then :D

Since you bought the 600D already then go start shooting with the best camera in the world first - "the best camera is the one at your hand now".

Haven't really go out shooting, busy with others things for half a year already. Bought it mainly for family and holiday photo, december coming can go shoot already hehe. Anything you want in the 60D the 600D cannot give to you? Except look better outside with the top lcd screen, higher burst rate - the fps thing for shooting fast action if you need it. Some extra thing 60D have is pentaprism - brigther view finder, the electronic horizontal meter, and the focusing system is faster I think.

I still newbie, so lets other pros comment hehe.

You should ask yourself which is the limiting factor of taking excellent photos...you or your camera. Changing to 60D doesn't improve your photos if the gear is not the limiting factor.

depending on what focal length u use, then see if u need the lens, but the lens will be a good start together with ur 18-55
at least can tahan u for half a year or more

for me i jump start to 18-135 and i am happy with it, till now... :X

Hi,

Just bought my 1st DSLR. Canon 600D Kit II a few days ago.. had a gd price on it...

Hi again,
Thanks to bros who had reply to my queries. As for now, 600D is my choice! It will stay and be part of my history for being the first DSLR camera in my life..heheheheheheheheh. I pledge to learn and make full use of it......But first,i've to unbox it and start to charge the battery. :)

My first camera was the 400D. I learned a lot from that camera and upgraded since. The 600D is so much further ahead of the 400D! You and your wife will enjoy the camera and learn a lot from it, just like I did. Then when you feel the nudge to upgrade and wish to challenge yourself with a slightly more sophisticated camera, you can put your 600D for sale on the Buy & Sell of this forum and upgrade.

More than anything, enjoy the photos you get from the 600D. Twenty years from now you'll be glad that you started photography!

I used Hercules ones from sgcamerastore as spares. So far so good :)

Bro, Does it looks very pro or rather all piang? :P How much did you paid for it? Any idea how much is the original?
