Not the M2 but still i think the weather sealing is quite okay le. well in rain it's quite fine that is.

Haha my 5D was in a similar condition mounted with my Sigma 12-24 when i was holidaying in Shenzhen a year ago. No probs as well, though after that got more cleaning to do. :D

Were u shooting in the rain?
There's the 1-series that can satisfy your needs better.

Oh to warn all 5DMKII users. Recently i brought my 5DMKII with EF 17-40 F4L to Vietnam for trekking at Sapa. Its very cold up there about 5-10c and worst still it rains heavily during my trekking days. So my 5DMKII got very wet till it give up on me... Totally cannot work, LCD blank, all buttons no respond, AF screw up. It only recover 2 days later on a sunny day.

So please do not think 5DMKII is "weather seal" therefore rain is not a problem. Send in to CSC for check up yesterday. Hope its fine...

Ya i am shooting in the rain.

Of cos i know the 1 series can do better in the rain. I mention my misfortune to others so they won't make the same mistake.

now i notice. so many people sell their 5D2. a lot of people sell now to buy the upcoming models. i think wait for models to come out first then sell. so fast sell, then later on when new model come out and frustrated must buy back 5d2?
like what happened to me when i waiting for launch of good 60d. i was using rebel series. hoping 60d was better than 7d but disappointed. so i just grabbed 7d. then after that i got 5d2.

But if you sell it after the launch of the new model, you can't fetch the selling price now as the 5D2 rrp will drop also. Unless the new one is another category. When 60D launch, 50D price dropped? Although some say 60D is a downgrade of 50D in the XXD series.

Dun think many ppl will make that "mistake".
On pg 12 of the manual, it's already stated: "The camera is not waterproof...." ;p

I think unless the new model is a 5D series and the upgrade is significatant, 5D Mark II should be able to stand on it's own well as a affordable and powerful FF prosumer DSLR for Canon.

Hi All,
Just upgraded from 550D to 5DMKII,
Can say that I'm still a newbie. got my first DSLR in Nov 2010. Using it only occasionally.
Now since the upgrade i'm getting more interested in photography. But sad to say is I find that my previous camera(550D) do a better job than my current one(5DMKII). I don't know it's just me or the camera. i just cant get the focus tack sharp. It's relatively easy with the 550D, manual mode, set to spot metering(when doing portraits) focus on the nose and the whole face will focus correctly. (with Tam 17-50mm non vc). Now with 5DMKII with 70-200 f2.8 L and set 80mm, manual mode, spot metering focus on the nose and...eeee..why only below the nose is sharp and not the whole face. The upper part look soft. Getting frustrated this few days. I still don't wanna give up...last few nights do some landscape and..oh no not again...why this spot metering in not spot on.

Any advice. Is the camera fail to focus correctly? or izzit me? any season/senior 5DMKII users can help me test my camera if it function correctly.

Please help me:cry:

i'm no senior, but i think i know what happened. with a full frame sensor like the 5dmarkII, the depth of field is now more pronounced than on a crop sensor. so when you shoot at 2.8 on your 5d2, the DoF will be a lot thinner than when you did using your 550d. that's why only the tip of the nose is the sharp one. you need to adjust your depth of field if you intend to produce the same results. either you step back a bit or stop down your aperture.

Hi and thanks for the tips. I will post some photo tonight to support what i hv just said. Now, in order for me to focus the whole face, i change my focus point slightly above the forehead. Doing this only create more emptiness above the model.

so.. what you are saying is spot metering determines if your subject is focus or not?

You can change not only the focus point, but also the depth of field. You have to take a few steps back than your normal shooting position. The bigger sensor produces thinner DoF. Here's an online DoF calculator, maybe that'll help: Online Depth of Field Calculator

Also try to focus on the eyes rather than the nose.
