+1 on this. I bought both Sigma 50mm and 85mm oversea recently but i trade off the 50mm for a EF 28mm f1.8 as i find that the 50mm to have some focusing issue on my 5DMKII. Sigma 85mm really is a gem, it produced nice color and bokeh.

I happen to do the opposite. I found that 85mm lens, regardless of which brand or version, get used very little, and spend most of it's time in the bag. 50mm being a standard lens, is almost glued to my camera. The occasional time I need to take wider shots, I just change to the 35mm. Perhaps, not being a pro, made me neglect the 85mm alot, because my siggy 50mm can take portraits just as well. I personally feel that people who earn money from their work will use the 85mm or longer lenses more often. I may go for the rental route in the future, should there be any specific occasions that I need telephoto primes. Having said that, I want the Siggy 85mm, but it is not a need.........:bsmilie: I already have what I need.

The 85mm (Sigma 85 f/1.4 or Canon 85 f/1.2) produces great bokeh. IMO, the 85 mm is one of the best lenses for a head and shoulders portrait with superior bokeh. The Canon 135mm is also a great for the same purpose.

Got a chance to test out the 85L with 1DIV, the AI SERVO combine with F1.2 moving portraiture is outstanding.
Any one ever experienced your 5DMKII hang after taking a shot?
I experienced this twice last week. Both times were after snapping, both were in low light conditions. I m suspecting its the memory card or the high amount of data being written into the card.I'm using a Kingston 8G 133X CF.
Anyone having the same problems?

Some have reported issues with Kingston cards, although I haven't experienced any issues.

Yes, fully agree. The Sigma is a great portrait lens, sharp and produces very nice bokeh.
The f1.8 while nice, does not have as good bokeh, but it focuses fast, really fast.

The 50f1.4 is for portraits where you want to get more of the surrounding into the picture, although the bokeh is nothing to shout about.
For nicer bokeh, get the 35L and the Sigma 85.
Exposure is around 1/30 or the slowest 1/6.
Hopefully thats the reason and not the camera. I will get the Sandisk 30 m/bs and monitor..

i had an issue with a dead pixel on my 5dmkII. Have read that such things are common on cmos and some can be remapped of the pixel by doing a manual clean option from the menu.
However what i would want to know is that
1) Does dead pixel means that the cmos has been damaged?
2) Does Canon have any policy to replace the cmos if there are dead pixel within the warranty period?
3) Would there be a need to pay for the cmos part if request to change the cmos at the service centre?
4) Is it necessary to send the cam in for servicing to get rid of the dead pixel? Will there be any other effects if the remapped has been done and the dead pixel is no longer seen?

I got the MarkI version. Amazing lens, light weight. I am not particular of any differences that might exist betw the MkI or MkII
Loved the thinner dof work with a wider perspective.

Yes would expect the MkII to be better optically. But I have not been visibility handicapped by MkI wide open yet .
