Under Custom Function (2nd menu from right)>
C.FnIV Operations/Others>
2: AF-ON/AE Lock Button Switch > DISABLE

When you enable it, the (*) becomes AF = same function as half press shutter

EDIT: Oh, if you are used to using (*) for focus (habit from 5D?) den the AF-ON button becomes your zoom out. =D

Yes, you are right. +) thanks.

BTW, people. As I have no time to do a lot of checking on the camera and such, I would like to ask that if the vertical banding issue been resolved for the latest firmware or so?

Much appreciated tho. :D

sharp right? I love the combination of this lens with 5DMKII! :)

nb... believe it or not. CANON s'pore has no stock! I have to wait for next shipment!! :(

still waiting for my set.

Chill, Mr Primeminister :bsmilie:

You mean you buying from Canon Singapore? :dunno:

Is there a IQ difference between the 7D and 5D MKII? I am going to get myself a camera and gave myself some options:

5D MKII + 24 - 105 F4L
7D + 16 - 35 F2.8L

like dat hard to compare...

u should compare

either

5D MKII + 24 - 105 F4L
7D + 24 - 105 F4L

or

5D MKII + 24 - 105 F4L
7D + 24 - 105 F4L

I think IQ wise both bodies quite close? But when comes to noise handling... 5DMKII is better when it goes beyond 3200. :)

Was exactly in your shoes 2 weeks ago, end up getting a 5DMKII and loving it.

yes, 5Dmk2 has superior IQ, the best of which a canon system can offer. ISO is better from 100 onwards, and has at least 1 stop ISO advantage over 7D.

see below for ISO comparisons between 7D and 5Dmk2:
http://rolandlim.wordpress.com/2009/11/06/canon-eos-7d-review/
http://www.neutralday.com/canon-eos-7d-vs-canon-eos-5d-mark-ii-low-light-iso-comparison/

IQ & DOF - 5Dmk2
AF - 7D

based on the given comparison, the 7D combination would be "faster" cause of 2.8 plus better AF, but the 5Dmk2 will still be sharper IMO. depends on how sharp the copy of lenses are... the 7D combination would have a lesser tele range though.

haha bro, i think what you meant was to compare

5Dmk2 + 16-35 vs 7D + 16-35

and

5DMk2 + 24-105 vs 7D + 24-105 ??

Hi...

I am comparing between the 2 following setups. 7D is a cropped sensor so I paired it with the 16-35 F2.8L to get the x1.6 range to match close to 24-70 F2.8. For 5D MKII, I have been hearing great comments of it with capturing good portraiture because of its FF.

I totally understand that every camera and lens are good....it is a matter of the skill. But the choice of Cropped Frame and Full Frame is a love and hate situation.

5D MKII with 24 - 105 F4L
7D with 16 - 35 F2.8L

you cannot compare this way... though focal length yes.

because the glass for 24-105 and 16-35 is different. One is fixed aperture f4 and one is fixed aperture f2.8.

So its better that you compare both lens on both bodies separately to get a better comparision.

eg 16-35 may give u some distortion problem on 5DMKII (not as bad as 17-40) but this distortion dun appears on 7D since it was cropped off.

The 5DmkII is going for about $4.6k with 24-105mm kit lens and the 7D going for about $2.2k body only. Would it actually be a good idea to get the 7D with a much superior walkabout f2.8 lens for about the same price (max $5k) and enjoy the PwP offer. If so, what's the best lens to get? The lens can be a combination of 2 lenses of just a single lens as long as the total package doesn't exceed $5k.

this boils down to your requirement (cost aside):

1. FF vs crop
2. Faster (7D) or slower AF (5DMKII)

anyway just note that 5DMKII is a 2 year old technology as compared to 7D but both are using the same processor except 7D is using a dual processor (hence can support faster AF).

:)

That is what I am considering too....so wondering whether to get a 7D and pair with the 16-35 F2.8L to get a range close to 24-70 F2.8. I know this act does not justify the function of getting a wide angle lens but I can get the F2.8. The actual 24-70 F2.8 is a heavy tanker to move around....

7D with 16-35 F2.8L will probably come close to 5K.

BUT many people are telling me to bite the bullet and go for FF to get better IQ. Actually I am not sure if it is worthwhile.....I started photography with film so I do experience the difference between cropped and FF.
