Repost :-
Hi Bros,
Bought a brand new 5DII about a week ago.
Took some test outdoor shoots. Noted that image was not as sharp as expected (I used 60D before).
Also noted that white is too bright at Standard Setting.
Any ideas how to improve?
I used 17-40 L4/f
I tried to post photos but not successfully (may be I am new member)

Welcome to the 5d2 club.
The 5d2 is a heavier cam, you will need to learn to handhold it properly. I suppose that if you use it more often, you will get used to the weight and get a higher keeper rate.
Too bright - check your metering setup, whether its spot, centre weighted, or average.

i second that. maybe it's a camera shake you are experiencing. 5D is a totally different shooting experience.

Thanks very much for your feedback bros Kenneth67C and jakedreatz .Photo taken at 1/100. Shouldnt be handshake. If you don't mind, may I send the JEPG files to you to have a look?

Heavier? How much heavier can it be!

The sharpness depends on the lens used. Plus on the full frame sensor is more demanding on the lens as the projection area is larger. The 17-40 needs to step down to get its sweet spot. I found my to be at about F6.2.

Metering on different camera model varies which can be the reason why the 5dmk2 is brighter than 60D.

Sure...

Hi guys, I have just bought a 5D Mk2, and suspected problem with the AWB. I would like to seek your advice.
I was shooting indoor with the AWB and noticed all my shots turned pink color.
I tried taking shots in my room, living area, and office, and there is a pink cast.
Regardless of the room lighting (daylight, warm white), I would expect the AWB to correct the colors, but instead turns everything pink.
Using my 600D, I did not have this problem. Pictures turn out as expected. I had both camera side by side to compare.

Appreciate any input. Thanks.
(BTW, this is my first post. I'm not sure if this is the right way to post a thread. I clicked on "+ Reply to Thread")

Hi there, first post too.

I paired my 5DM2 with 24-105L coupled with a Hoya Circular Polariser on a recent trip to Nepal. And, there were serious issues with vignetting at wide open. Was rather disappointed with some of the shots that needs to be cropped.

Wonder if anything can be done?

Thanks in advance.

Use thinner polarisers or if you can, do the saturation in PS/DPP.

Were you using just the polariser or did you attach the polariser to the UV filter? 2 filters will vignet on the wide end.

Just a quick noob question.

I am using 5D M2 at the moment. Is it okay for me to trade it with either 1D Mark 3 or 1Ds Mark 2. Which one is better.
Just a note i still wanna stay full frame. i know, i should go for 1Ds Mark 2. but i think 1D M3 is also a good cam. thanks

Of course it would be a matter of personal preference but I would stay with the Canon 5D Mk2. The 1D Mk3 is not a full frame camera but is great for sporting events and fast moving subjects. It is a camera that has been designed to be used for a totally different use than the 'slower' 1Ds Mk2 and 5D Mk2 which have been designed as portrait and landscape cameras.

The 1Ds Mk2 is an older camera and as such may not have the technological advances of the 5D Mk2. First of all the LCD screen is much smaller at only 2 inches. You would also be taking a hit on mega pixels going from 21 to 16. ISO performance and low light performance is not as strong as the Canon 5D Mk2. Essentially, with the 1Ds Mk2 you'd be working with a technology 4 years prior to the 5D Mk2. In my opinion, I think that you'd be far better off with the 5D Mk2.

ic thanks for the reply. coz i got two guys asking for trade with 1d3 or 1ds2. well apparently that's why i choose 5dm2 coz im shooting portraits, candid, wedding, pre-nups, and landscape. I went from 7D to this big boy 5dm2 because of it. so i think this is what i need for my style. thanks for the reply. some more comment would be appreciated. thanks

Thanks Kenneth for the advice. Yes, I was using with a UV filter. Didn't dare to remove it for fear of dust....

Nowadays with all the digital darkroom tools, I don't find the need for a polariser:

the dust on your lens is not as scary as those dust on your sensor. dun get too panicky over your equipments.

the only fear bumping your front lens element and got the coating scratched or worst still broken into pieces.

Get Nikon 14-24mm F2.8 with adapter. one of the best UWA to pair with 5DII.

17-40 distortion quite bad on 5DMKII... unless u want to spent time correcting the distortion during PP.

not sure about 16-35 but now I am using Carl Zeiss 21mm (upgraded from 17-40) and I simply love this lens :D
