Clubsnap emailed me your post so even though you deleted, I can still follow the link to flickr and view it directly. :D

When composing your post, did you click the 'Insert Image' button and paste in the image URL?

Hey,

Just sharing this so that future/new 5D owners know (i didn't know initially)...that 5D requires a software driver before EOS Utility can read/detect the camera when you hook it up to your PC. I really cracked my head and went crazy cos i thought that something was wrong with the camera when i couldn't get EOS Utitility to connect. I was trying to put in the additional picture styles..

After emailing Canon and clarifying with them, i found out that the 5D required a software driver and i received it via email...it worked perfectly after installing the software driver.

Having said this, i would like to share the driver with fellow 5D kakis and will not mind emailing you the driver should you need it. Do feel free to PM or sms me. If any body knows how to embed the file onto this thread (since its a 5D user thread) for others to download also can lah...but i dunno how to do it.

Hope this information was useful.

Many thanks for your kind offer! I would like a copy of the software driver because I tried to connect my 5D to my computer some time ago and couldn't do it. I didn't understand why it wouldn't work and now I do!

Please PM the software driver. I would be most grateful.

Wow that is really low and further more, you are the first owner.

If this goes on, I think you will not need to buy another DSLR for the next 15 years :bsmilie:

Not necessary. Shutter units are mechanical devices and can fail at any time. Last time when i had my 10D and after changing the shutter unit, it failed again at only less than 5K cycles!

Replied ya PM

Just realised that i can't email the file because Gmail does not allow exe files to be sent. I'm providing the weblinks here for your downloading of the Software Drivers for XP and Vista and also the firmware update.

Software Driver for XP

Software Driver for Vista

Firmware Update

This should be easier access for all our 5D kakis. Unfortunately, i don't have the driver for Windows 7.

ChEErS!

Seldom see people using that DO lens.

So far how do you find the IQ on the 5D, especially for portraiture?

Nice pics of the monkeys there. The bokeh looks creamy :)

Thanks zurichdo.

The IQ (sharpness and bokeh) of the DO lens is surprisingly good, in contrast to many reviews out there on the net. (That said, am comparing it with 70-200F4, 100-400L which I have owned before).

The main draw is the light weight and small size - family man very hard to carry 100-400 around anymore.

The downside is the very bad zoom creep and the ergonomics - zoom range very narrowly spaced, and very "heavy" to zoom unlike the 70-200 series.

Well, let me start a new topic for this thread.

i am hoping to get my first L lens this year. hope you guys would share with me whats the difference b/w L lens and EF lens? or all of your experiences with L lens on your 5D! Does it mean EF do not produce better IQ then L lens( although i think this is not true ) ?

have heard that the "upgrade" to L lens is definitely worth the money, but i am not exactly sure whats the different. except i know because of its amazing IQ, solid build, and of course the good reviews bout them!

:) Thanks!

All L lenses are EF lenses, but not all EF lenses are L lenses. So L lenses are a subset of EF lenses. There are some very nice lenses that are not Ls, like the 85mm f/1.8, so don't discount all non-Ls.
