was looking at hk for potential trip, noticed the hotels are not cheap over there.

Harbour Hotel at Mongkok, special offer rate around $101 per nite for 2 pple with breakfast and it's a 3/5 star rating. Fortunately, last 2 rooms.

lol good idea.

Appears that a lot more are selling this camera. For the convenience of a full frame, instead of using a scanner with film, I got 1.

Seems still capable of good enough images.

A test shot with the 17-40L

When I view your photo in its original size in Flickr, the amount of detail is amazing. Did you use a tripod?

I did ... plant my tripod right in front of my window. I am sure there are better cameras these days that can get us that kind of details too. But I wanted to try the FF out and feel first hand what's the kind of control I get over the DOF. So it's really not for landscapes that I got the 5D, just an after-thought.

It's been a long time since I've used a film camera... but since your experience is fairly recent, I'd like to ask you this question... do you notice a huge difference between film and digital particularly in the areas of IQ and detail?

My experiences are based on lab scans which in my opinion not good enough, especially landscapes. Maybe different if you have a v700. For the occasional street snaps, it'll suffice, not when you decide to pixel peep.

I am still going to relate this to a 5D raw file which is convenient and good for me since it's just postings on the web.

nicely done!!

nicely done!!
Thank you, Eleveninth. Saw that you are going to sell it off, upgrading?

I only have a loan 17-40 L from a colleague, and so must shoot a few more to come up with my thoughts of this lens when matched with 5DC.

I think it's quite a good match. It's got a very good range, and a build like an L. Gets the shots you usually need for landscapes or the occasional shot of the company you are with, even at f4.

Distortion can easily be corrected on LR4.1. Still weighing the options ... if you've got recommendations to pair with the 5DC, let me know your thoughts.

All who still have the 5D. Do you find that the sensor do attract quite a bit of dust quite easily? I send for CSC cleaning but still find quite a bit of dots (small ones) around. I think I'll live with it for awhile. Afraid to clean it myself.

It's not really that it attracts dust, but the 5DC doesn't have the self-cleaning technology unlike the newer models have for it's sensor. That's why you'll find that it has some dust. ;)

Another lovely photo, hjbyeo!

Just a couple of comments...

I have the 5DC and the 17-40. The 17-40 is one of my favourite lenses. I know that a lot of complaints have been made of this lens but for me I think that the match up with the 5DC is superb. The technical weaknesses of the lens are relatively minor in my opinion. The potential for making great photographs with the 17-40 far out weigh its weaknesses.

Another lens that I love using with the 5Dc is the Sigma 12-24. Wow... what a lens! When I used the 12-24 on the first day, I kept getting these strange black blobs at the bottom of most of my photographs. At first it looked strange and I couldn't figure out what they were. Then I suddenly realized that the two black blobs were my feet! That's how wide this lens is! It is amazing!

All camera sensors are subject to dust. The 5DC is no exception. Unfortunately the 5DC does not have the anti-dust technology that later cameras like the 5D2 have. I used to send my 5Dc in for cleaning but now when I notice dust spots appearing on my photographs I simply open the 5DC and use the rocket blower to gently blast them off the sensor. So far, that has been working. I have yet to use the more involved cleaning devices designed to take care of "sticky" dust because I haven't yet needed to.

Indeed! Well, its not too much of a hassle currently. When it does, I'll bring it in again if a few blows doesn't work.

The problem for me is 12-24 cannot mount 100mm filters. I have got the heliar ltm 12mm FF, and when used with my Bessa L, I had so much difficulty of not getting my fingers in the frame!!
