Based on your description, doesn't sound too good.

Use any lens, set it to aperture f16 or smaller, and take a photo of a white paper (make sure it covers the full frame), doesn't matter if you can hold it steady. Next open the photo in your image editor, adjust the contrast and see if you can still see the dust and hopefully didn't see any scratches on the ccd.

Wish you all the best.

water works fine. just pour into the hole and let it drain out.:bsmilie: \

was kind of things getting worser today. first, saw dust in pictures. used blower to blow. look at refelction of CCD, can see the dust specks. keep blowing, still there. in the end, tried using alcohol with ear buds. made matters worst, it wasn't alcohol, was somekind of medication spirit. can seen sumdges on the CCD. thinking it would evaporate, used my father's industrial compressor to blow into it. forgot the air blown have dust, so got a sticky sumdge with more dust. in the end got extremely worried, so used the ear buds, dip them in water and slowly polished the CCD. then used the dry side of the bud to clean, then back to the wet part, then dry part...................until the CCD looks shining clean, used up 12 earbuds in the process. haiz........:(

If you see the same hot pixel on different photos for normal daylight photo those are hot pixel and can be remapped.

For switching on a few days after the new month, not sure about that but I guess should be ok, unless the programmer screw up big time. If it's hot pixel, try the above and straight away can verify. :bsmilie:
i saw 2 hot pixels in my fireworks shots, day shots cant see a thing maybe because its on the top left corner and most of the time are sky shots so not obvious. will try out tomorrow :bsmilie:

it's ok. looked extremely carefully with the aid of a reflected white light. took some pics and zoomed in very closely. no prob too. phew! btw, what is the normal method of cleaning the CCD if the dust doen't come out with the blower? this is the first time i actually made contact with the CCD.

satay16 u damn daring sia! respect you. heng ur ccd never tio anything if not i would say u self-pwned urself :bsmilie:

hmmm....i see 2 faint dust spots.

You will be surprise what you find on your sensor. Most of the time dust sensor will only show up at aperture f12 or smaller, and it's more obvious on a plain single light color background. If you can see the dust on the sensor visually it will be a big blob on your image.

For CCD cleaning this is a good site. http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=tutorials

Another thing to add....with the amount of time spent examining the CCD under the white light, most probably more dust had settled onto the sensor. :bsmilie:

earbud scratches, correct me if i am wrong

so how do all of you clean your ccd? is it excatly like what the website say? saw the cleaning kit on PPCP website, but i think 20 dollars for 3 sticks is abit too ex. 5 dollars for the solution is still ok since it is only a few drops.

actually the ccd is tougher than we thought
diy cleaning myself recently using 3m microfibre cloth...

agreed. i thought a simple swipe with some water would clear everything, but in the end, spend almost 20 mintues getting those sumdges off, so irritating. actually, the whole process was fine, the dust was gone, the only problem were the sumdges. is it the cotton bud or is it the water? i think tml i am going to try methanol and see if the sumdges still show up. if still show up, i might go hunt those lint-free cloth the website is talking about.

actually, not to worry so much. the thing you are wiping isn't really the CCD, it is a low pass filter.

how much is it to replace if the low pass filter got scratched?
