agreed. i thought a simple swipe with some water would clear everything, but in the end, spend almost 20 mintues getting those sumdges off, so irritating. actually, the whole process was fine, the dust was gone, the only problem were the sumdges. is it the cotton bud or is it the water? i think tml i am going to try methanol and see if the sumdges still show up. if still show up, i might go hunt those lint-free cloth the website is talking about.

dude, DON'T DO IT!
you can use a dry lint-free lens tissue/ mircofibre cloth but don't use any liquid on the CCD! There are kits, yes those are expensive, and there is the option to send it in to Sony. What I did was use a piece of card (the irritating junk-flyers you get in your mailbox), cut a strip to about the width of the ccd and about 10cm long, bent it in half, folded the lens tissue perpendicularly across the fold (get it?) with the edges tucked into the inside of the fold and closed the card strip. then i scotch-taped the two open ends and had a two-edged ccd cleaner. you can use a little force on it, its ok, just make sure you rub in one way (top-to-down works best).

good luck!

$3.36. btw, why cannot use alcohol? the website say about using some methenol with lint-free cloth to wipe it. really confused now. one say dry clean, one say methenol, one say blower(but dust did not came out). any one shot method i can just follow and use(other than sending it in)?

ok. decided to take the plunge. preparing the alcohol and cotton buds on the table now. hopefully i wun see my ccd dissolving.

phew. sweating like mad. ok, i think it when quite well, definately better than yesterday's water treatment. here's the result:

this one is with water and cotton buds.

bad choice. industrial blower.

this one was done today with the alcohol and cotton bud. i think i only swiped the central portion. as you can see, the dust are like cusltered in the sides.

final product. one last careful clean with alcohol and 5 cotton buds:
PICT0004.jpg

can see one faint dust spot, but cant be bothered.

The remapping should work...

The AS is completely silent... grinding sound is no good...

Yes, few weeks ago I had my 7D send in for shutter assembly problem. after the fix AS start to give grinding sound. I re-send for check and the shutter was re-aligned. now all is ok.

try to set slow shutter i.e; 15 sec. if you hear the grinding sound. have your 7D checked.

I am getting more n more confused... the diagram the person shows me looks like the correct spare parts diagram, but the screens designs are different. with 2 small niche sticking out along length of the top and bottom, whereas i examine 7D's focusing screen, there should be one on the lenght top side, and the shorter side with a long ledge with 2 pins.

the one with 9pts focus they quote me at $12

i know the $4 screen is the one with matt surface, not the clear one with 9 focusing pt. it comes in just in a small clear plastic bag, i saw the lady took out from a small box but dunno if it is also included in the package... she showed me that, the $4 matt surface one. the one with grid/9 focus pts is $12. but hoh... the one she showed is not for dynax 7D leh.. the sides not the same as what i see in my 7D.. different pattern.. i got a spare parts PDF n i compare, totally different. my copy is the same as my 7D when i remove the focusing screen to compare....

wah. i think i read my own post i also blur

u see the metal square frame above the mirror? thats the catch... after the metal frame, its the matt focusing screen, there is another metal frame next, followed by the last, which is the 9pt focus screen. its only snap on
