haiz.....dun make me hit myself more.

btw, i just recieved a call from sony. dun see the reason for calling me, but they told me they will be changing the AS mechanisim and the battery compartment. woo hoo! but sadly, when i told them about the bright pixels on the CCD, they said they can only do a remapping, so no brand new CCD.:(

dun scare me.:o

anyway, servicing when the warranty is about to end was pretty worth it. they say got extra 3 months if the camera got any problem, but only for those things they repair.

still dun get it. which exact part of a lens causes it to have faster focusing speed? i noticed that some lenses(refering to zooms) dun have SSM, but their focusing speed are extremely fast. how come? is it the part they move is lighter or they can somehow transfer distance infomation to the camera faster?

Factors to make the lens autofocus faster...or slower:
1. Lights, more light may yield faster focus
2. Focus resolution (like macro lenses, the resolution is finer, thus longer to focus)
3. Lens-body interaction
4. Type of focus motors (SSM, USM, SWM are faster than normal DC motor (zoom) or stepper motor(for focus))
5. Weight of the optics, glasses are heavier than plastics (like BeerCan is slower due to many glass arrangement, but sharpness you get of the best quality).
6. Firmware (focussing method, some lenses behave in a certain manner with respect different light conditions, for example some firmware, if it cannot find contrast (figure of merit) object, will go straight to infinity, others will search longer.)
7. Focal length, the longer the focal length may cause slower autofocus.
8. Prime Vs. zoom lenses.
9. I believe there are other factors, like the build, metal cam Vs. plastic cam, etc

Understand your lens' limitations and strength well, then it will be your formidable weapon. Even if you have G lens, if you do not know it's strengths and limitations, it stil be a useless lens.

Happy shooting.

hi. need some help once again. anyone know where VC-7D stocks are still available? thanks!:) need that grip as i cant seem to find any place selling the BP400 batteries, so decided to buy that to use AA batts.

NP400

whoops. my mistake NP400. but...yeah, cant find east gears too. any particular place selling them? and also, my experience with eastgear's batteries has not been good. the original minolta battery still does well in my A1, but for the eastgear, it shows low batt after around 30,40 shots despite being fully charged. but then again, for its cheap price, 2 eastgears=1 original, so might be worth it actually.

edit:
oh i see. eastgear is in penisular plaza. just sent an email to them to see if stocks are available. thanks for the link!

You can forget about using energizers AA for the VC-7D... Your camera will shut down after 50 shots.

See this...

hmmm.......noticed about him using alkaline batts. does NiMH batts also have the same problem?

not sure, but for me, no point really cos the main reason to use AA is to prevent need to recharge, else I would much prefer to recharge those NP-400s

sigh.....even the US wesites also dun have VC-7D. where to buy?????

just in case i can find one? what price is considered as normal? like the price you paid for 1st hand? thanks!

Heh, it was rare even when I got mine, not to mention now...

I got it close to $300, now it's probably the same amt, except it's in USD :)
