Odex will get to sue all their listed downloaders successfully and get their monies - they may have win this battle, but they have lost the war.

FYI, they have ALREADY lose the war long ago. Just that, that siao one use stunt and won this final battle (and my keep on capitalizing on this), and make some quick and big bucks on it.

Maybe expand in franchising and become professional illegal downloads catcher. To a point that you downloaded 5 min, then they sue you on that 5 min. of film.

Say 30min episode = $10000
5min = $1667

Etc....

simple. kids have no financial support to hire lawyers to fight for them. and usually its a one to one case fight.

i've seen the anger at hwz there. and of course, i think the gahmen should step in. and its time for them to do some work.

Cs has been odexed.

(o.o)y

HAHHAHA...

ok kids can't do anything, but THEIR parents can.

actually also why hasn't anyone written to TNP about getting their facts wrong?

there... u answered it urself.

but TNP might run another exclusive story on this topic... as it will be hot news.

But most singaporeans are timid and easily frightened into submission.

It seemed like alot has paid up.

I pray that the Anti-odex fellowship will win and Odex stop all its monkey business.

Let's not depend on our media.

Maybe the authorities had stepped in and restrain journalists from taking sides in this saga.

To them, it's seemed to be a good opportunity to showcase Singapore's stance in protecting

intellectual property rights.

It's very sad to see our local company resort to such means to extort money from

kidz and teenagers. These kidz will eventually grow up as young adults and have the

financial means to purchase originals and support the anime industry in the future. You are killing the anime interest now

I guess alot know that there will be a gathering for the anti odex committee tomorrow at

National library.

Stompers please dun make urself a nuisance there.

and twist the facts to sell more papers. Seems like its standard has never improved.

It just shows that we got brains but no heart. :(

And companies using legal system to bully own citizen.

14 years ago, i was witting a report on why software piracy will help partially to increase the IT literacy levels in Singapore.

Software prices then were so expensive. Who could afford a Lotus 123 or Windows 1.0 or Wordstar at that time? The only decent exposure kids could have is in the school and what the software comes install in their PC. Of course, the report do not condone piracy , just stating that the business models and environment at that time encourages rampant piracy as there are no alternative viable sources that satisfy the masses.

I reason that these "schoolers" , once they have grown up, a significant percentage of them will have financial means to purchase legally what they may not have during the schooling days and hopefully the price will comes down with better quality and education be given to the future kids to bring overall piracy down. It is also the individual company's benefit to recognize this trends and cater positively to it and encourage growth within it.

Times have change, the law has tighten on copyright. Some business are able to price differentiate according to customer expectations (etc "Educational prices"). Some are able to differentiate the quality that meet market demands. Unfortunately , Odex fails in here, and its action can be deem as an attempt to "silent" a large portion of anime fan base as a whole without offering an alternative, but a single parting gun shot at their potential / repeated customers.

Yes, piracy does not stop with just suing. Alot of negative effect resulted from it will hurt the company itself and the industry altogether.

agreed attacking your consumer base is not gonna do wonders for your business.

ah ok. wonder if people will show up.

Not sure man, unless they want to use media attention to help their case.

Which I think won't work out.

I dunnoe what will happen if odex really gets their way.

Maybe next we see companies start to a mass crack down and sue ppl who uses pirated software at home

Perhaps now is a good business opportunity for some companies to parallel imports amid this negative foray on Odex.

we'll see what happens. If it leads to that it won;t be good for anyone. I bet alot of people will open champagne once Odex closes shop.
