Perhaps now is a good business opportunity for some companies to parallel imports amid this negative foray on Odex.

Assume that they see the opportunity and captialize on it. Doubt it, but more power to the people who do it.

Actually besides the fact Odex won a court case for the release of personal info. Legally can they demand compensation without going to court from the parties involved?

I totally agree on that.

Example

Pirated DVD SGD 5 to 7 dollars.
Quality might be excellent or lousy depending on luck
Audio can be crappy and most of the time subtitles are done by jokers that cant spell to save their lives.

Legal DVD SGD 14 to 17 dollars
Just movie alone

Legal DVD SGD 20 to 25 dollars
With making of, interviews etc etc

Most important of all with the extra few dollars I pay, I am assured of good quality picture, good audio and correct subtitles, I would buy legal.

However if legal discs are priced at 40 and above..... give me pirated anytime man.....
i think the subtitles part belong to Odex.. fansubs are a lot better. :bsmilie:

Yes they can, but you can refuse to pay too.

They take you to court.

If you lose in court, you pay fine (or go to jail or both) + compensation.

_

I thought since this was a civil case there's no jail time involved?

If it's a civil case yeah, but if they choose to report it as a crime...

Or worse, they make it a civil case and the gov then decide to make a criminal case out of it too...double whammy!!

ouch.

why's that? They already did in the first write up.

they did not twist the fact.

they jus carefully chose the right stuff to be presented to the audience and left the rest out.

isn't it?

we'll see what happens. If it leads to that it won;t be good for anyone. I bet alot of people will open champagne once Odex closes shop.

ah.... something that's close to my heart. but i drink beer n eat D24 liu lians:bsmilie:

So u been double 6'ed as well? Its a good thing bleach, naruto and claymore not in the list.

If Odex make the move and stop asking compensation, i may consider buying their product

as a approval to their action :)

omitting information and presenting stuff that fit your agenda is twisting the facts. Just like presenting statistics and using them out of context. I think you're trying to say they didn't make stuff up or lie.

what is on their list?

Something just came to my mind.

Can Odex actually know what these downloaders downloaded exactly? And are these downloaders breaking any law by downloading?

Example if I am downloading the titles the Odex holds distribution rights over, then correct I am at fault. However what if I am downloading titles that Odex holds no rights over. Then can Odex still take action against me for downloading anime when the anime doesnt even belong to them? Does that not make it become Odex taking the law into their own hands to earn a quick buck from this?

I think we should look more closely into this case as it could be a case of a company pulling a fast one on everyone.

according to the writeup in wikipedia, they'll need to engage experts to reconstruct the evidence
