Found this for istD/DS/DL...

Cheap, < SG$50 with delivery, but not sure if it is good.

Is the focusing screen the same between the istD and the K100D ?

The price is quite cheap when compared to the katzeye. From the picture, it seems like it is just normal split screen focusing screen without any AF points, or other indication on the screen. I also do not know if there is any need for exposure compensation correction.

plain split screen focusing screen. maybe can get one and give it a try.. ;p

For the *istD, DS, K10d, there is a bracket to release the focusing screen for changing. I am not sure how to change the screen for k100d. Any other users out there who know? :dunno:

Same as D/Ds/10D ;)

do all split screens not hv af indicators?

fengwei... do you think I can use the D/Ds focusing screen on the K100D ? Thanks :)

I'm not Fengwei(but he had tried my camera) but my Katzeye was transferred from a DS to a DL to a K100D.

One thing to note, the center is somehow not centered on my K100D. Either I never placed it properly or its just like that. Minor annoyance but its a JOY to use.

I remember there was someone who can do this locally. Normally deals at Boon Lay if i can remember correctly. Do a search on focusing screen on clubsnap, he advertised before.

The focusing screen on D/Ds is abit different from the one on the K100D, but same size as the K10D. The focusing screen is abit bigger on the K100D than the others (D/Ds/DL, even the K10D too). So if you put a D/Ds focusing screen in the K100D, it won't be a perfect fit. Still useable I guess, but you might end up w/ misalignment of the center focusing point and the center mark on the focusing screen as southernoise has encountered.

Exposure is another issue. So it's better to stick w/ original focusing screen or those matching ones (both size and exposure).

split screen is a joy when use with manual focus lenses. I am not sure how it works with AF lenses? Does AF still work? No more 11pts focusing? Actually 1 center AF point is good enough. Does the katzeye split screen work with 1pts AF?

There bounce to have some slight exposure different when using the non-original focusing screen. 1/3 to 2/3 stop compensation should still be acceptable to me.

Last time when we put pentax SC-21 screen on MX instead of SA21 screen also need to compensate.

thanks for all the advise... :)
Seems like I should only go for 1 made for k100d, original or 3rd party.
Think I found the article southernoise talk about... only for istDs for pentax.
O-ME53 already helps quite a bit.... so it will do for now.

No, the AF sensors/points have nothing to do w/ the focusing screen (well, almost), 'cause the sensors are not on the focusing screen but somewhere else, they should work w/ all focusing screens.

Different focusing screen might have different light transmission, so the exposure might be different. This can be adjusted by EV compensation, but not as convenient.

even if it is for the DS it will work. ;) mine was from a DS, IIRC.

multipoints etc all will still work. just that there are no "[o]" indicators on the screen but you can see "o" red lights

Ohhh.. ok, this is what I want to hear. So there are still "o" red lights on your split screen. Good, I will give it a try then.

cheerss..

Hi seafone, is this difficult to install the split screen? I'm using *ist DL.

I am not exactly very sure about the *istDL, I am using *istD. Anyway, southernoise mentioned that he changed his screen from DS to DL and then to k100D. His earlier post mentioned that there is slight different in size between the k100D to the DS. I suppose this is because DS is using pentaxprism and k100D using pentaxmirror. So the dimension may not be exactly the same one. Maybe 1mm off? OR?..

Usually, what I do is to release the catch of the bracket holding onto the screen. Then the bracket flipped down. And you can remove and replace the screen using a plastic tweezer. Flip up the bracket and click it in place. Just try to make sure the enviroment is clean when you do this. So that dust won't be trap inside later. Quite easy and simple. :)

Hi seafone, thanks for the tips, sound like easy to install. Maybe I will buy one and try, worst case –> ask Shriro to help :bsmilie:

I bought the screen used from a friendly CSer and I believed he had the DS.

Installed it on my DL and it was a perfect fit. The center "o" being right in the center of the split screen.

When I installed on my K100D the "o" was slightly misaligned. Dunno if I **** up OR its just like that. Like I've said, minor annoyance for a whole lotta better view.

To install make sure you have a big rubber blower, plastic tweezer(can be bought from Sim Lim tower), pictorial instructions from DP review(gotta search for it), a clean environment and a bit of patience.

You'll need to lift and dislodge a metal frame from the tab and then the screen is free. Just do it carefully and slowly.
