really wanted to say i love your photos. saturated and soft. is that the effect of the f1.4 bringing in a lot of light in the lens?
i'm very interested in the setting leading to the photo as i'm learning. currently holding a nikon D50 kit lens 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6.
super-newbie sub-3months, thinking of expanding into these budget lens for
1. wide angle (landscape): Tokina AT-X124 Pro DX 12-24mm f/4 - $870
2. macro (dew, plants & flowers): 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro - $330
but after seeing your pictures made me feel like switching my macro into a fast street lens as that may be more suitable for my travel photography. macro is what i feel to be something that i can pick up later when i get the basic fields covered first.
i'm controlling my budget as i'm thinking of upgrading from manfrotto 190mfc into gitzo weekend G1058 (0.75kg, max load 3kg, 134cm for me 165cm) plus the lens to be sub-$2000.

Well first, i don't have any f1.4 lens. The fastest lens i've got is the 50mm f1.8, but i almost always shoot at f2.8 and slower to maintain the sharpness. You don't need f1.4 to bring in a lot of light, between 1.8 and 1.4 is very little difference - not worth the $$ i feel. I'd rather pump up the ISO in this case.
And between your 12-24 and 70-300, there is a very crucial 24-70 that is not covered! Unless you have the money to get a good zoom lens at that range, else get the 50mm 1.8.. Less than S$200, it's my fav travel lens. And if you shoot the food you eat whilst travelling, the 50mm does the job very well.
Something more to add to the 70-300, i don't really like such a huge zoom range because the quality will suffer.. For me, i'm using the 80-200 f2.8, quality is superb! But it's more for work purposes than travelling lens.
Finally, to get great color out of your camera is not difficult. My trick is to install a custom curve in my camera. Comparing a digital print and a 120 velvia 50 slide to print, it's hard to tell them apart! This made me think twice about bringing my medium format overseas in the future.

as my budget is light to moderate and since i'm still new in my shooting and haven't narrow down my preference, i'm keeping to the more budget lens at the moment. of cos i dun intend to bring too many lens too, considering this wonderful prime lens u have, maybe i can drop my macro at the moment. it is a headache really.
for sigma 70-300, it is a recommendation when i'm asking for macro. the 80-200 are u refering to sigma too?

behyx said:Thanks man, however i regret not visiting the sand dunes in jutland.. I read about it and i was in Hirtshals, Hjørring and Skagen for a few days, but i don't know why i never visit it :dunno: until i saw your picture.
cheeweng said:It's just a short bus ride from Hjørring but it takes u about 15-20 mins walk from the bus stop to the spot where the sand dune is located. Well, you can always visit denmark again![]()
Actually, there's two sand dune over there at the northern Jutland. One is a buried lighthouse and the other one is a buried church...the buried church is just south of skagen.
