City Veins

This was taken during yesterday's blue hour after the epic sunset. It is titled City Veins as the roads represented channels for essential traffic flow. Somehow, City Arteries or City Capillaries just sound weird.

The processing wasn't quite straightforward. The initial +1 and +2 EV were HDR-ed to control the blown roads on the shot of +2EV with the underexposed buildings of the +1EV. Pentax bodies tend to under-expose hence the base exposure is +2 in here.

This is then blended separately with another 2 exposures (one for Fairfield Methodist Church and one for all other building lights) to control the highlights for the building signboards. The resulting two images were then further blended and then a further blend with the +2EV (IIRC) and some curve adjustments were done to increase the brightness.

The foreground is still quite overexposed though.

I downloaded your photo and tried doing some adjustments. Fiddled with the highlights slider a little and I was able to pull back a bit more details in the foreground. Not too much, around -3 to -5 points. This will darken the sky and the buildings in the background a little. Can try a +3 with the shadow slider and see if you like the results.

Of course, what I see on my monitor would be different from yours.

You can try using luminosity masks. A very handy tool to isolate highlights or shadows.

Same spot as #321 but taken during blue hour. For some reason, I decided to take out the MRT trails as the shots of late which I have been posting have been full of MRT trails and I want the focus to remain on Clementi Mall. People tend to notice nice trails first, despite knowing people who aren't fans of that, and because I've been scouting places to shoot Clementi Mall (instead of shooting from it). May blend in the MRT trails for comparison later. However, as it is, I'd like the second shot posted of this scene to be without the trails.

Misjudged an epic sunset and went to shoot this only to feel the pain of watching the glorious sunset colours fade while in the car and to be left with the blue hour.

*Edit: Just read about the motorcyclist who passed away in an accident at this stretch of the road yesterday and how I posted this uncannily. May you rest in peace.*
