Nissin Di866 Problems

Hi guys.

Just to update. I had just collected my Di866 yesterday. (After more than 1 week in service centre @ E-Centre). They ended up exchanging my faulty one to a brand new. Apparently, the service technicians classified my case as "Intermitent problems".

My new Di866 works like charm on both NiMH (rechargeables) and Alkalines batts. I think I was really unlucky to get a faulty Di866 in the first place. :(

Update us after using it for a while. =) I'll like to know if u're happy with it... if u're, I might reconsider getting it again...lol

Glad to know your problem solved. Welcome to the club. Go out and shoot more. Cheers!!!

even canon flashgun will give u a trouble if u are not lucky... experienced once but nissin di866 so far got no problem.

Hey guys. Thks! What I like abt Di866 is the full manual control, zoom and ETTL. ANother cool thing is tht when you turn sideways, the screen will follow automatically. I will put it to action this coming weekends and let it go boom boom boom. See how. Ill update u guys again. :)

my Di866 has the My TTL setting at -1. Then it is always on target :)

Hi guys, just an update after a while. So far the Nissin DI866 has been working fine for me. :|

I still can't make it stop working lol... Since the day I told you that the flash started working miraculously, I've been using the same 4x energizer alkaline batteries. Still no problem.

I just switched to Sanyo 2700 rechargeables. Hope everything will continue working fine.

The night the flash stopped working, I was in an observation room in thomson medical centre. Then I went to the premium single room to sleep overnight. Subsequently they work. :| Humidity problem? Temperature I think quite normal. Maybe 28C? I still don't know why it didn't work those times haha.

Also, how come in TTL mode I change the EV value like don't affect the image one? I'm a noob so be gentle. :)

I change exposure on camera it will become brighter or darker but I change the EV on flash, there is no diff. It just shows the number on my Canon 500D on the right but the image don't seem any different.

Im using the same flash too. Over all Im very happy with the result. Just 1 thing I damn pissed with it.... " Over Heat ". Stand there and suck thumb. :(

I suppose changing the EV on your flash will dial in the ouput level of your flash. This has less effect on your overall exposure than adjusting your EV on your camera which will directly affect your exposure.

Yep ure right. If you look closely, there are changes but the overall exposure will look more or less the same.

Nyway, my flash too is working fine now. Recycle time very fast coz I rarely use more than 1/4 power most of the time. Dropped it on the grass from waist level still ok. Works fine wif my 'no brand' PT-04. So for those contemplating getting this my advice, get it! Just make sure u test it out. Use the shop batts (NiMH) and bring some Energizer batts as well. Now I just wanna get the diffuser. Anyone ordering online??

Just a question here.

If it's such a small difference could it be no difference at all (i.e. you notice a "difference" due to a different camera position)?

Because if what you are saying is true, 1ev does really sound like 1ev.. sounds more like 1/100ev

I ask only because I am seriously considering getting one myself.

Mine work fine so far. Where do I update the firmware?

Just one question. I heard that the connecting plate is made of plastic... is it very fragile and break easily?

Hi guys, im looking to get a nissin 866 for my d90 as its the only nissin flash that support FP mode. Im wondering if it works well with d90 auto FP mode? max sync speed for my internal flash only 1/200. i need at least 1/500 or best at 1/1000. Anyway using the flash with d90 and can give some suggestions? thnks :)

hey guys, im using a nissin di866 for canon mount and i was using it off-camera, with pt-04 wireless triggers on manual mode. i noticed that the flash output was inconsistent for certain shots. i did shoot only when the blinking red light (recharging) stopped and only when it turned green would i fire the next shot.

i was also using freshly charged gp recyko batteries.

do any of you face similar problems? will test it out again soon..

i had the exact same experience with a di866 (canon) + skyport + (energizer/recycko), the same problem with inconsistency of flash output. it seems to happen at every alternating shot or on every 2nd shot. it works perfectly on-camera though.

hope somebody can explain why this is happening

Just an update. So far the Nissin Di866 has been behaving well for me. I don't know why. Maybe after I 'deflowered' it for a month, it can now work consistently well lol. Back then, when I set the camera to say -2 EV, and flash to +3, the image looks dark like crap. Somehow after using the flash for quite a while, now -2 EV on camera works perfectly with +2 EV on flash so I can get faster shutter speed and a properly exposed shot. I use sanyo 2700 batteries and energizer 2450. I alternate between these 2 sets of batts.

Hi guys
I am new to flash photography and looking to get one to improve my indoor shots. I am on a budget and looking go get the nissin model u guys are discussing.

Just a quick question, any difference between this and the canon 580ex II model? Anywhere I get get info on the comparison between the two? I am really noob and pretty don't get the terms u guys used.

Hope you guys can help. ;)
