Wow! think twice of D90 now..D5000 is more convenient dslr..for me entry level..who want to appreciate d quality of d image n video clips recording..I wonder when this camera will be in store in msia n what d price??
at the sacrifice of the built in motor in the d90?

why not? if they know that they are going to ONLY use AF-S lenses on this fella, D5000 is the way to go.

they must be quite well off then to have so many afs lenses :)

The "consumer newbie" may just stick to the one and only kit lens... I bet there's a significant number of D40/D60 users who're still comfortable with the 18-55 kit lens and haven't bit the CS's BBB virus yet... (but then that's because they don't surf here yet ;p)

Anyways, the D5000 carries over the useful electronic rangefinder function from the D60, so even manual focusing can be a tad easier. This is where the manual focus fanatics will come in... :D

not all AF-S lenses are expansive you know

you don't see the canon guys complaining right?
just get used to it, sooner or later all nikkor lenses will be AF-S

would be nice to couple this with the af-s 35mm f/1.8. with almost the same high iso capabilities as the d90/d300(supposedly) won't have much you can't shoot. nice light walk around combo.

but i don't think i can settle for smth without the little top lcd screen.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do many people find the top lcd convenient? I thought what you can see on the top lcd can be found on the main lcd, no?
Please enlighten me :)

From what i see the LCD articulation is one of the major improvement and useful change to the DSLR line-up. If i buy D5k this shall be the reason why. A build-in motor will allow auto focus on lenese though.

Unless another model comes out to include all the mentioned and more tentatively i will still put D90 / D300 / D700 on my wish list.

The top LCD allows you to view important information without having to power a large battery consuming main LCD screen. I reckon it costs a lot more battery power to power the main screen (being bigger and colour pixel based) as opposed to the small LCD screen, being true LCD, b/w crystal based.

Also have to see the range of non-S lenses. Esp when the prices may be more affordable to a group of cosumers. How about the third parties? At the UWA lens category you will see some limitations.

there is a whole other list of 3rd party lenses that are compatible

nikkor lenses is about quality, the price have always been higher than 3rd party manufacturers.

I don't think the inability to use non-AFS lenses is a problem. These cameras are priced to target the newbies. Only the oldbies are the ones talking about ability to use non-AFS lenses, becuase those lenses are the real old types (AFD, AIS ,AI etc). How many of those target audience will buy these lenses?

it's just that for me at least, it's become a habit to quicky look at the settings from the top lcd of my d70, esp shooting in manual. it's just a habit la for me. tho maybe after a while i may get used to looking at the main lcd for settings.

I see i see, think it really saves battery power. Now i got it.
Thanks for the clarification :)
