but again, i totally do not understand why nikon start with 5000, why not 1000?

Gives them the flexibility to launch a even more basic and competitive DSLR and calling it "D1000" if ever they need to. ;)

I guess with the 4 figure naming convention, it already give them more room. Who knows the successor to D5000 is named D5100 or even D5500 :)

i think it new model is best choice for my 2nd body.
can be compare from D90 & D5000.
- Durable, high precision shutter Testing to over 100,000 cycles assures precision and long shutter life.
- 11-point autofocus system with 3D Focus Tracking Fast and accurate autofocus delivers razor sharpness.
- D-Movie Mode with sound Record 720p HD movie clips enhanced by NIKKOR interchangeable lens quality and versatility.
- only 1 thing is without built-in motor. if not all is best body.

Price: USD $729.95 = $SGD1150.

is this true? that would be twice of what the previous gen of entry levels are rated for.

Just wonder how long will it be available for sale in Singapore normally after the launch?

It will be available for sale in Japan on 1 May 2009 according to the japanese brochure.

:o so fast..... earlier than canon 500D?

For all those who are interested, D500 starts shipping on 27th April according to Engadget. Get ready those bucks!

That I don't know, maybe to "reserve" lower numbers for even lower entry-grade DSLRs?

Remember when the D700 came out, people were asking why not D400, 500, 600? Think Nikon reserved those numbers for replacement models for the D300 (DX).

but if D5000 offers a lot competitive to D90, then it is not.

Unfortunately, the D5000 lacks the high resolution 640x480 LCD display which the D300, D700, D3, D3X and D90 boasts.

I notice it has a "Quiet Shooting Mode" ( reduce sound coming from the shutter mechanism)...interesting..I myself can remember a few occasions where the shutter sound attracted the attention of a few around:bsmilie:.... not sure if the D90 has the feature, can't find it on the D90 brochure though..

I think with that LCD and this "quiet shooting mode", it's meant to be a stealth camera :bsmilie:

It think it works like Canon's LV? My friend showed me (he uses a 40D) how the mirror slaps down to turn on LV, and slaps back up once the shot is taken.

As for my D90 (and prolly other Nikon DSLRs), it slaps down to activate LV....but when you press the shutter release, it slaps back up...then down and up as it would when taking a conventional shot without LV! Really noisy for concert photography imho

Was told that it is expected to be on stores on 1 May 09.

So call your favorite retailers and let the BBB begin ;p
