Nikon D7000 or D700

I would say go with D700. I tried my friend's 5D2 with 2470L the other day and It is quite obvious the rendering, depth and isolation is alot better than crop sensor. One would have to justify whether is it worth the premium, and FF sensor render slightly different as compared to crop counterparts, I cant explain it also. Just different.

Ditto. The D700 outperforms the D7000 and 5D2 where high ISO is concerned. D7000 has better dynamic range, and all 3 have around the same color depth. If you're planning to shoot for the next few years, just think of it as skipping one round of upgrades and going for a full frame to start with. Also, once you handle the D700 and appreciate the solidness of the build, you won't look back.

That said, at around half the price, the D7000 offers excellent value for money, especially if you don't think you'd be shooting in poor lighting environments

Best prices for D700 put it at about 35% price premium compared with D7000 (comparing body-only prices), which isn't a lot.
Though D7000 still has some plus points :)
Tough choice! :)

Bro that is starting to change. Prices are going up again due to situation in Japan.

And before the tragedy in Japan, D700 is only selling around 800 more than the D7k. So D700 is not twice the price of D7k.

i know. But since I'm not based in Singapore, I don't know the discounted pricing, so I took a more conservative route in case people criticize the argument that the D700 is obviously better at twice the price

Since it's just a marginal difference, the D700 actually makes sense for people who will get serious about photography.

It is more expensive in Singapore, market pricing was around $3060

The discounted prices are all outside singapore. Malaysia can get for around 6k RM. USA Nikon gives US$300-400 rebates. HK/China is also cheaper than SG.

Thing is, all the pricing changed due to shortage after the tragedy in Japan.

with so much discussion here ... d700 is a clear winner but ... it does not have video capability right?
I mean anyone who purchase a FX will put video capability at the end of their checklist... but sometime somehow, I will feel crippled for not having that.

initially i tot of straight jumping into FX vincinity ... and D700 is all I can afford, but then ... video... arghhhhhh

You have the D7k for video mah... then use D700 for stills. Perfect combo.

Can also go for D3s.... ;)

Check this out, totally shot with D3s.

Just in case you are wondering how it is shot.. here is the behind the scenes video... also shot on D3s

well u shld have just invested in a cheap HD camcorder if video is what u need, those canon or panasonic are quite price friendly these days, than the rest of the money thrown into D700 and a couple of good lenses....

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

thank you for the thumbs up, hehehehe

i mean Bethpapa74 shld have spent at least arnd 3k plus now on his DX, than another what 7k later for his fx, when, thats a total of 10k... and u have to lug around two body, for a working professional they have too, but for simple hobbyist with the intend to go semi-pro... is like errrr..... i rather carry a Canon Legria Series or whatever HD camcorder and my D700 arnd for my outings or whats not... a bit forgiving on my shoulders.... plus plus i save at least 1.5 or 2k which can go other needs...

well my 2 cents...

the more you are involve in reviews and pro-advises ... the less you will buy a DX cam .. hahha
important is know your budget la ... work around it and get the most out of it.

no point earning $2k pm but spent 7k for FX setup ... worth? this is subjective ... one can even quit his job to do photography full time, grow tired liao ... start getting a job again.
All in all ... if you do a living on photography, then you should indulge in expensive FX setup which can last you 10-20 or 50yrs.
if you are only a daytime engineer/banker/cashier and want a better image quality than P/S camera ... I think DX is enough.
Many pro-gamers will tell you.. if you got cash to burn, just buy a server to play games ... bestest choice liao!

P/S-->DX-->FX ... is purely a learning curve la.

I am stepping up from a G10, initially i also think of diving myself into the evil world of FX ... how about i put aside 10k, get a d700 and all necessities, .. confirm good choice right?
skip that darn DX and just wack FX la ...

but then, i though for a second ... what IF i sian liao?? hahah ...
So ... there are no right/wrong, good choice/bad choice ... know your budget and that 'fire' inside you will be more important.

**DX is nice, FX is nicer ... hard cold cash is nicest!**

I am only sharing as a noob, no offense to all the experts here la.

Which is also why some of us don't understand why you do not want to save some money to get a better built, better performing 3rd party lens compared to a branded Nikon one.

But to each his own I guess. ;)

BTW, I hope you know FX body is not that much more ex than DX nowadays. 7k only if you talk about D3s. LOL.
