Which is also why some of us don't understand why you do not want to save some money to get a better built, better performing 3rd party lens compared to a branded Nikon one.

But to each his own I guess. ;)

BTW, I hope you know FX body is not that much more ex than DX nowadays. 7k only if you talk about D3s. LOL.

I think it'll be a learning curve for me as well ... for now, i feel more comfortable sticking to ''nikkor'' brandings since they r the ''OEM''.
til i get to a stage when i am very sensitive to what is 'real' image quality and 'steady' hands ... who knows maybe the basic pure kit lens is all what i need :)

yes, FX body is not so ex i agree... FX lens and DX ones are also very much comparable liao.

Don't quite agree with your last point. Price-wise, there is still an appreciable difference for most lenses.

eg. 17-55/2.8 DX vs 24-70/2.8 or 10-24 DX vs 16-35VR

Besides which, FX lenses are also heavier.

Ultimately, you are the one who makes the final decision. If you feel compelled to get Nikkor lenses, that's fine by me :)

If you see that FX lens and DX lens are very much comparable, then it is good for you, no need to buy FX lenses and can save you thousands dollars.

Wah bro, you had a 24mm now :)

Ya, but its focusing speed is slower than the 35mm.

Wide primes are hard to make. That is why they are so expensive. The wider the more ex. Compromises are to be expected.

Yeah, i need the focal length of 24mm, so I have to live with its slow focusing speed.

i am still thinking if to get D7k or D700.. gg to get the camera next week.

After using the d7k for couple of weeks .. i'd like to share my view with you.

d7k, get it if u r into tele-zoom/wildlife/sports photography ... that will take advantage of its crop sensor capabilities.
d700, get it if u r into portrait/street/landscape ... its larger sensor and 51-AF pts will make your photo turn out much nicer.

Sorry to barge in with another camera model. I took a dip and rented a D300s. Although it has ugly exterior and loose rubber cover, the usage experience is phenomenal. Help a friend to test & buy a D7000 before. But the hour I just spent enjoying this D300s body confirmed myself that this or its successor should be the body to purchase rather than the D7000.

Considering I just recently got the D7k, i'm gonna stay away from the D300s/sucessor till my finances improve. :p

Best of luck to you bro :)
But given the fact how the D400 might be delayed and good market trend, your change might not seem that far.

I m using d7k, it completely good camera for pro and semi-pro.

i am having the same problems in choosing between this two bodies...
the d700 has a very good high iso capability being a FF. Since it was release back in 2008..don't get me wrong is a good camera but its screaming for more features, updates and new sensor technology which is on the d7000.
read on nikonrumors that most country are "discontinuing" their stock on the d700 as the new "replacement" the d800 is coming out soon by this year. even the D4 the d3x/s replacement. this might not be true thus the name rumors.

so what i decided was to sell off all of my canon gear. yes i was a canon fanboy until i had my hands on both the d700 and d7000. the reason for the jump is also that nikon has a very good range of optics. so i'm getting the d7000 and investing on a sigma70-200 f2.8 and some nikkor primes. so when the new replacement of d700 comes in i sell off my d7000 and i won't have any issues on the lens side or prolly keep it as a back up body depending on my income.

hmm..... sound like a very good strategy & planing in moving from Canon to Nikon, you are great!

What features are on the D7000 that aren't on the D700? Aside from HD video, which I don't really bother with anyway - I have a NEX5 for that sort of thing.
