D70 is already out of production.

This thread being active are only the few out of the hundred thousands that have purchased D70, so what does it say?

i dun know about u, but from what i interpret, its not a few out of thousands. judging from the stats generated from this thread, i interpret it as more than 250,000 failed in 1 million D70 sold. thats what it said to me. i guess ur millege is different, more than 25% is considered a few. :sweatsm:

make this thread sticky pls. :)

It says that D70 owners are in for something big ......... like waiting for the time bomb to go off.

POWWWPOWWWWW!!!!POWWWWW!!!!

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Btw, I am also a D70 owner ...... guess we in this together. :hung: :hung:

No mater what happend i will still buy Nikon camera.............. Keep in mind that all electronics products will fail some day........ :)

From mine as well as beachboy's experiences, it seems that Nikon will fix this problem for you FOC even if your warranty is expired. I must emphasise it is this "continuously blinking CF light" problem and not any other problem you may have.

If you can gauage stats this way... then I also can't argue right? Whatever.

i m not here to argue with u, dun be mistaken. i merely hoped the moderators wud make this post sticky so that those D70 owners know where to look when they encounter this problem. i think its a helpful thread with helpful info on where to go & who to look for help.

Helpful thread? When your camera has problems the place to go to for help is the service center. That's what they exist for in the first place.

well, i read u helped others by talking to Nikon service center & get their camera fixed even after warranty. u also let D70 owners know the case-by-case evaluation thing & also other owners voiced out the good service from Nikon & be nice when negotiating with them. if u dun think these r helpful, what is?

i think we do have very different views on whats helpful.

edited: agree with markccm, do unto others what u want them to do onto u. thats why i dun chase people out of the sub-forum. perhaps u want others to chase u out whenever u post out of Nikon sub-forum. well, thats one thing u dun hear/see everyday. :bsmilie:

k..mine failed on 29Apr...just before the May Day long weekend. Send in on the 3rd may got it back on 6 May. Nikon serviced it FOC despite the warranty has expired 1.5mths ago. good for them.

will my camera go into SUDDEN DEATH again? No idea...maybe it will, right in the middle of my next shooting.

Has my trust of relibability in Nikon been shaken? sure it has been. As a hobbyist i also been frustrated by the sudden downtime. what more for those who depends on their for a living?

Nikon should really investigate the cause of fault and put up a public advise.

erm, i think they already have investigated the cause and acknowledged their responsibility, hence the free repair even after expiry of warranty for this particular, well-documented problem. later batches of D70s do not appear to suffer from this so one assumes that nikon has sorted it out on the production end.

as for public advice, how should they go about doing it? "dear valued customers, please be aware that your nikon cameras may break down anytime."? which company would do that and what would be the point?

i guess they could do a product recall but these are usually done for "life-endangering" faults, such as faulty brakes in cars, faulty electrical wiring that can start fires etc.

out of curiousity, has anyone brought in their D70 and asked for "pre-emptive" repair before the problem occured?

eh....

wats there to agree with me? :dunno:

Heh! Mine finally went "beddy-bye" in the middle of a shoot on 8 May. I was pushing for it to happen sooner so I could get the component replaced. Sent it in on 9 May, got it back on 12 May, FOC (warranty expired).

Did I scream and shout and curse Nikon when it happened? Nope, I just pulled out my trusty F3 and carried on shooting. Did I stare at, spit on or complain to the service staff after a long walk in the sun and longer wait at NSC? Nope, I chatted and joked with them and had a nice time.

*Sigh* - S**t happens all the time, more so with some products than others and more so for some people than others. I believe that I happen to fall into the "more so" catagory. The thing is to be prepared for it and learn to cope with it; always expect the worse to happen when you're dealing with electronics and if I rely on photography for a living, I would be really dumb if I went to a shoot with only one camera. :bsmilie:

Still I do agree that Nikon might have handled this better with a product recall and service of affected units as this would help increase and cement customer confidence and satisfaction. Sony has done this for a number of their products that they'd found to have serious faults. I've had to trudge down to Haw Par twice because of Sony's product recall - see what I mean about me being in the "more so" catagory? :bsmilie:

Cheers
