i cannot rly remember, coz close to 9 months liao... ard 450-500 2nd hand? but now a brand new one now costs less than 600 now

Hi,
Is the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens fully compatible with the D5000? Especially in auto focus?
Is this price (new, about $600) a VC version?
Thanks!

e Tamrons for nikon now mostly comes with BIM for autofocus already, but no VC... Alanphoto's stocks for nikon all comes with BIM, but e VC ones are much higher at ard $900. But seriously, i dun believe people need VC at 50mm focal length..

Hi tkte0408,
Thanks for the info.
I can see that u also have the Nikkor 17-55 kit, is that the kit lens 18-55mm DX VR?
If yes, how is it compare to the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 in term of the pic quality?
I’m considering replacing the Nikkor kit lens, it’s good but I need one with a wider aperture.

i like e f2.8 for portraiture photography.. hmm but i cannot compare it with e kit 18-55mm DX VR coz its been sometime since i used it(ever since i got my Tamron).. But e kit len's gr8 as well, just that e aperture get small to f5.6 at 55mm...

I am still happy with my D5000, 90% kids' potraits + candids. (afs 35mm F1.8)

Hi Fellow D5000 Users

I had just borrowed 2 lenses from my friend, a Tokina 28-70mm MF and a AF Nikkor 80-200mm 1:2.8 D.

When I attached the len to the body, the screen shows "Lock lens aperture ring at minimum aperture (largest f-number)". I followed and it worked on the 80-200mm while the 28-70 failed to work.

Could anyone advise me if that particular Tokina won't work on my camera body or any adjustment to make?

Regards
kc

As you probably know, the older Tokina is unable to auto focus with the D5000. Did you try to move the aperture ring and if so, did you see the "focus" indicator dot light up at the bottom left side of the view finder?

Hi Daoyin,

You are right, the lens wasn't a auto-focus, my friend told me its a manual.

Indeed there is a yellow dot and FEE and the flash sign shows and kept flashing. This happen though I did not move the aperture ring.

Any further advise?

Many thanks in advance

There is a small (forgot color) dot at the left end side of the viewfinder bottom row. If you press the shutter release buttun half way down, it will most likely blink first. Now turn the focus ring of the lens until the blinking stops and the dot stays constant. When this occurs, whatever you are trying to focus on is "in focus". All you have to do now it to fully press down on the shutter release.

Awesome IQ. D5000 owners have every reason to be "proud" of such a fine camera. Eye opener for me, looks like taken with D3 :)

Whats the camera settings & on tripod?

Lovely pictures, of lovely young lasses. Must be one of the reasons why you took up photography ;) You got potential to be pro someday :). Thanks for sharing, enjoy these pics, love the colors, sharpness, details & all. Makes me realise that the D5000 is really an excellent camera in the hands of someone who appreciates & know how to use it, however new to this hobby..... Cheers!

Got my D5000 a few wks ago, and its beginning to turn out to be a great toy, with value for money. Love it.

Another D5000 owner reporting in.

The camera was an impulse buy, overpaid for it but still happy with the product.

D90 features in a smaller package.

Anyway some sample shots.
