thanks for the tips ! Lots to learn lots to learn.. :D But that's the fun in photography isn't it.. there's never a limit to what you can do & learn to do. There's always some new tricks that someone knows.

u're welcome :)

for now, it's good to start off by reading up basic photography magazines/books to learn the basic stuff first. or u can join the outings organized by the seniors here, it's also good to understand how others shoot n process their pictures. most importantly, experience counts, so keep shooting ;p

Hmmm hiburt, hope u get ready. Seriously wat u had spent is really not very expensive... Wait till u learnt d limitation of those lens n start to invest in primes n ultra wide.... Hmmmm then u will knw wat is call siong! Lol happy snapping

Hi there, I'm new to Clubsnap and I'm glad I found this thread. Yes, I own the D5000, just got it less than a week ago and I love it. Currently using the Nikkor 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. Pretty damn good.

hi n welcome to the club:)

Although I love the D5000, I've owned it for less than a week so far, so does anyone that has owned it for a long time have any advice to share? Maybe things like precautions to take and possible problems of the D5000. Thanks. :)

at wad mode did u set to when u tried to adjust the aperture? (M, A, S,P or auto)

has this problem been encountered when using other lenses?

For now, try setting it to either M, A, or S mode by turning the command dial. only different in S mode is that turning the command dial reduces/increases shutter speed, from there observe if the aperture changes or still fixed at f/22. as for M mode u haf to press onto the exposure compensation/aperture button n rotate the command dial at the same time to change the aperture size. If the above methods dun work, then i believe it might be the problem with the lens (if it only occurs wif ur 50mm f/1.8). Otherwise it might be the problem wif ur cam body.

On another note, the aperture of 50mm f/1.8 cannot be changed via the aperture ring on the lens. It has to be adjusted via the camera. U have to lock it at f/22 first before u can change the aperture via the cam.

HTH :)

Precautions? hmmm maybe page xii to xiii and page 210 to 211 in ur manual

Problems? i dun haf any problems wif it so far :)

agree, but look at the 2 pics she posted lol. i dun detect noise in both pics.

2 possible options:
1) the noise is removed by d5000 itself by selecting iso noise removal to high
2) done separately via PP

other than noise, details r lost due to high iso. colours dun look as saturated as low iso too.

the pics view are small so cant see much. when you zoom in. you will see more on the 1st pic.
yah. it is safe is keep it low iso.

Yah! there are a lot to learn, have fun!

yup i did. it's pretty noiseless from my screen. all i can say is, d5000's noise removal is pretty impressive :bsmilie:

Learn the fundamentals. Blurred = shutter speed too low. Use a tripod or jack up the ISO.

Focus not there = AF sensor has problems in low-contrast situations. Learn how the AF system works.

Color not right = Probably white balance settings of your camera. Shoot RAW then change WB in PP. (i.e. Photoshop)

Hi all,
I’m thinking of getting a used Nikkor AFD lens for my Nikon D5000. Any bros tried these lenses on their D5000?
I understand have to manual focus & the metering (exposure) need to trial & error. Any idea? :dunno:
Thanks!

With or without tripod? ;)

Anyway without tripod, you still can but try to use Shutter-priority mode and set the shutter speed accordingly so that your min shutter speed doesn't cause motion blur.

Mmmm... try not to drop it?

If drop, try to drop on soft ground.

If hard ground, make sure got warranty ;p

So far no issues for me other than one red hot spot which has mysteriously disappeared. :dunno:

I shoot using the M mode. So as to say for d5000 the aperture ring size only can be adjusted by the camera body... and not on the lens side?? thx... anyway i am new to using a dslr

yup.. it can only be adjusted via the cam, not by the aperture ring on the lens. u haf to lock it at f/22 if i rmb correctly so tat u can set it via the cam.
