Hi guys,

I've been using the D5000 since last June end. This camera have been serving me very well from Sg to wherever I've traveled. To what Ive read up & known, our body can use these format lenses, please do correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still new to this DSLR.:embrass:
I just wana share this information with all D5K users.

1. AI-, AI modified Nikkor or Nikkor Series E
2. AI Type Teleconverter
3. D, G AF Nikkor
4.AFS/AF-I Teleconverter
5.AI-P Nikkor

So far, ive tried 50mm F1.8D, loving it! The bokeh is good. Many people would questioned why not go for F1.4 or F1.2, I did asked around and most people feedback would be F1.2 & F1.4 is not as sharp and color not as good as F1.8.

So guys, pls do not waste $$$ buying lenses to try. No offense but those who can afford, of course you can do so. :) For those who are tight budget like myself, I would rather rent a lens to try before i decide which lens suits my way of taking photos. At least i waste only a day rental like $20-$40, :) At least I get to try most lenses. Why not give it a try? Afterall, photography is all about trial & errors, isn't? :)

Hi, just wanna ask you, since you are using a 50mmf/1.8, how is the manual focusing because i heard MF on this lens is hard especially for D5K bodies w/o a focusing motor?

Proud owner of D5000 reporting! =) even though i am a total NEWBIE to photog, i did quite some reading up before deciding between D90 and D5000... finally chose the D5000 to start my newly acquired hobby!

congratulations! welcome to the Nikon D5000 family!

But i have one problem, due to my severe lack of photog know-hows, I feel that i have been doing injustice to D5000's full capabilities... therefore, can anyone show me some ropes to capturing great pics with the D5000? I prefer to practice photog in small groups or perhaps 2 or 3?

i think everybody felt that when they acquired the d5000 especially with new models and high end ones looming around. i felt that one too and i was almost in the brink of selling my d5000 in exchange for canon or a higher end nikon until i was hit with a book.

my personal suggestion would be, buy the book of jeff revell, "Nikon D5000: From Snapshots to Greatshots". it helped me so great. its the very reason i appreciated my gear and stopped doing injustice to it. its a user friendly book, easy to understand and cheaper than any other nikon d5000 books around in sg. it has tips and suggested settings on how to maximize the d5000 producing a pro type of photo by maneuvering its settings to work on its optimum performance.

Btw i am starting with the basic 18-55mm AF-S VR and 55-200mm AF-S VR, by recommendation from my friend. =)

great lens man! good for you, i only have the 18-55mm VR kit lens but i love the way it performs. you have the two great dual lens hand in hand to do your photoshoots.

Thanks guys!

want to ask you guys,
1. im intend to buy 18-105mm VR (d90 kit lens) but i heard that 18-55mm VR sharper than 18-105 mm VR, currently using sigma 18-50mm f2.8 but its very heavy
2. for 55-200mm VR user, when the lens attach with D5000 body, is it lens heavy or even?

Hi,

Think you're worrying too much. Stick with the 18-50 Sigma and learn how to use it. You'll appreciate the constant f2.8 aperture capabilities when you need it.

1. if u have 18-50mm f2.8 u wont need to take 18-55mm. you will love the f2.8.
2. depend ur range, for 18-105 and 55-200. it cover different range. It is a sure thing that heavy than ur 18-50mm lens x 2 or x 3 weight.

I like the lens, it is cheap and light and it is f1.8.
But I just sold it. It cant af on D5000. i have problem manual focus.
you need to spend more time and practice to get it right.

Any D5000 users here ever tried tethering to an Ipad or Tablet, to view the pictures after a shot is taken? or even view the LiveView via the Tablet or Ipad...

I think would definitely be great if we can view on a bigger screen.:)

As a lot of people already said, you'll appreciate the f2.8 when you need it. Also, after you use f2.8, you tend to feel sad when using f5.6.

The 55-200 VR is rather light

Hi guys! I just bought a 2nd hand D5000 today! :D Glad to hear about the great reviews from you guys. Anyway, I wanna ask, is the kit lens, 18-55mm good? Or should I get another lens right away? This is my first DLSR, so I wanna ask, whats the real difference in the lens anyway? I noticed the max aperture for the 18-55mm is just f/3.5, which is pretty small, right? Is that a bad thing?

Hi from one wildcat user to another wildcat user. I am also a D5000 user (also bought 2nd hand). If getting kit lens, then I think the 18-105mm is a better lens; since you get 2nd hand already, I think can easily choose this kit lens from the 2nd hand market also.

These are kit lenses, don't expect large apertures for small price.

hi guys, anyone willing to let go of 18-55mm VR Cheap? i wish to get a replacement as mine was accidentally damaged some time ago.. =( email me at hyk.ian@gmail.com if u have got offers. thanks guys!
