Got a few questions, need some assistance.
1) Is the diameter of the D5000 kit lens (18-55mm) 52mm?
2) Is polarizing filter still recommended to be used (for improving the photos) in digital photography?
3) I have a Sanho compact drive portable storage device model PD7X. I realized it cannot recognize larger than 2GB SD memory card. Worst still, no hardware or firmware that can upgrade it. I don’t travel often, so I’m thinking of getting a cheaper one, any recommendation? I don’t mind fix HD size configuration. I think 160GB size should be enough.
4) Is AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR a better lens than the kit lens (18-55mm) in term of image quality? What’s the price for this lens?

1) Yes it is.
2) its mainly to cut reflections , to reduce f stop or to have dark blue skies
3) i think having smth around 8gb is better
4) They are comparable. its around 300 bucks in clubsnap forums.

2) Depend you like polarizing filter but important to protect lens's front first. its mainly to cut reflections , to reduce f stop or to have dark blue skies
3)i) Recommend to buy 8 GB or more SDHC memory card
ii)Not enough of 160GB harddrive. Nowadays, 1TB harddrive is $159 only or 500GB, it is cheap.
4) no, it is same. Do you need the zoom lens? If yes, let go Nikkor 18-105mm.

In this way, I don’t have to buy so many memory cards.

actually its good to have many memory cards, incase one fails. by backing up to a device, its like putting all eggs in one basket, IMHO

Ok, you better to bring two 8GB or more GB memory cards,it is good to have many memory cards, in case one fails.

The grip will add weight to the d5k, some may not like it but for me its ok.

icic, but does it feel nicer to hold? cause now for me my last 2 fingers got no space to grip liao, so overall with the ext grip its nicer? and the texture izzit the same as the body? i.e : got those little bumps and stuff.

IMHO, even if u've a portable storage device, its still better to bring more memory cards along.

jus brought a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm len...in fact, this is better den kit lens..more zoom i would say, but slightly heavier for sure...

Has anyone tried a D5000 with a 50mm AF 1.8 lens. Somehow, the auto focus works on a D90 but not on a D5000. Anyone understand why?

yupz..i tried, must see the ape to the smallest, manual focus only..reason: the lens doesn't have built in motor like DX lens. hmm would prefer 35mm dx, compare to 50mm..
