:sticktong hijack this thread a while.....:sweatsm: anyone need 1GB High speed (60X) SD card, i have a few for sale, lifetime warrenty from agent. Bought in bulk from taiwan so can sell cheaper. Retail at $120, now selling $80 each, Brand New in unopened packaging. Kindly PM me. :bsmilie: By the way, i'm using now on my D50, no horse run. Thanks !

All cameras will eventually support the high capacity cards. It's a matter of firmware rather than cameras. I seemed to have heard that someone actually used a 4Gig sd on a D50.

Although in theory, CF supposed to have a faster transfer speed due to bigger size and more pins (16 bits) in comparison to SD cards with 9 pins (4 bits), but in reality, that is jus rubbish. Does size really matter? In this case....nada. CFs have a higher capacity than Sds at the moment due to it being earlier on the market and so based on time-line, they will have that lead. The point being that even if the manufacturer can fit 16Gig on the SD now, they will still only release the 4G and 8Gig (it's jus to earn ur money dude).

CFs are used more commonly used due to market penetration. If memory serves me right, xds used to be the fastest in flash card technology. They are half the size of SDs and were aimed at the small devices. However, it entered the market too late and at too steep a price..which eventually led to it demise.

And so...which device wins at the end of the day is not determined purely by technological superiority but on market forces.

Jus look at HD-DVD and bluray and u can see the power of market forces.

Going to upgrade from a Z3 to DSLR soon.... But still comtemplating on which to get... I got lots of SD cards and if getting a D70, then i would have to buy more of the CFs.

Actually my fren advice to me is to get a not so ex body and invest in lens. I think thats very true.. But with all the older D70 on the 2nd market, hmmm is it worth to get the D50?

I'd go with what your friend say. Get the body that you feel will be sufficient, get the lenses first.

I think so too.... Some more, after i compare the specs, there is actually not much a difference. Some more after counting the number of SD cards I have, I think I should go for D50 instead, then invest in some good lenses.

After all, a good camera without a good photographer can do much too, might as well concentrate on building up my skills :)

I believe most of the cameras are unable to support such a big card, right? Hmmmmm:think:

So why did they bother to make one in the first place?
Correction: current cameras may unable to support a big capacity card......., but future release cameras will support a big capacity card.

Arto.

yes, and i believe most PDAs can take 4GB cards.

Making them for the future... but most of them can't handle it now, so are they trying to force the camera makers to speed up?

maybe the advancement in micro hard disk will be the push for biggest cards.

To be able to use bigger cards, the camera manufacturer jus needs to release a new forware for the old camera to recognise the larger capcity cards. No need to wait for new releases.

Jus a software limitation.

Yo..there is actually a SD to CF c ard adapter.

You can find some at http://www.memoryworld.com.sg/MW_Accessory/MW_Accessories_main.htm

So even if u get the D70s...jus get an adapter and u can use your existing SD cards.

I doubt it. Even if it is possible, they will not release it. They want you to buy a new camera :embrass: .
