Hmm... seems only my friend heard of that news that SD card will get phase out.. actually I don't think so too as there are so many devices using it too besides cameras... Will double check with my friend again... ;p

Yeah... still can consider D50.. cos that's probably the DSLR within my current budget.. :)

Eh, how did u come about the findings that SD cards are better than a CF card? I'm real curious.
SD is lighter than CF.
SD is smaller than CF.
Speed of SD is comparable or similar to CF.
SD should be cheaper than CF.

Arto.

In that case, why do the manufacturers use CF cards for the high end cameras instead of the SD cards? Think about it....

i thought most high end cams can use both ? like the 1D or D2X ?

Beacuse SD card have a Capacity Cap.

I think it is also because CF started out earlier than SD. So it penetrated the market much better.

For manufacturers there are also considerations like

1) cos of implementing a CF reader other than a SD reader.

2) Since DSLR is bigger, there is not really a need to save space on the device by implementing a SD.

As for memory cap....all devices have memory cap no matter if it is SD, CF or whatever...someday they will run-out of space. In truth, they already know how much they could possibly squeeze onto the flash....but by releasing the cards in increments..they stand to gain more....=)

Like previous mentions, CF card is already penetrate the market well...

It is more stable and higher capacity in reasonable cost/mega. :)

Hi,

I am contemplating to buy a D50 too.. but recently some friends advice against it cos D50 uses SD card and heard that SD card will be phased out soon.. is it true? Anyone heard of this news too?
Not when mobile phones are starting to use RS-MMC, miniSD, microSD/TransFlash cards which are based on the SD card. Speaking of that, does anyone knows if a SD-CF adapter is available so that I can use an SD card in other NDSLRs other than D50? :)

And the fact is that the speed of a SD card is much slower when compared to the CF card due to the limited amount of size available. Going by such rates, it is almost impossible for the SD cards to catch up with the CF cards in terms of transfer speed or reliability.

Yes, there is a SD card to CF adaptor available in Sim Lim. Check it out there.

Dunno what kind of logic is this :dunno:

What has size got to do with speed? Sandisk Extreme III's are 133x for both SD and CF.

Yes, and we are now saying that SD card is more reliable then CF cards.

My apologies, the direction I should be going is that the larger size would allow for easier placement of the memory modules and allow for larger memory sizes.

Cheers,

I remember reading from somewhere that the D50 supports up to 2GB.. Dunno is it true anot?:)

Wow...

but how big a memory card does the D50 support anyway? Or is there any limits at all?
