d70/d70s/d50/d80/d40... in terms of old > new. (d200 skipped)
all of them are able to do AF except d40 with your older lens

between a d40 and 400d, which is a better dslr for a amateur?

I would say D200 too, at its lower price now, if serious ...

I checked out the D40, it sure feels like a toy, and weighs like a toy as well even with the lens ! It should go into a very small bag too. The salesman couldn't answer me when I said it felt like a toy, so I relieved him from his frozen look of discomfiture by saying I'll take it anyway, since it was just what I wanted :) as it fits my needs for a DSLR at the moment. Well almost, I wish it had 12mp

At any rate, it's fun using it for the occasional times I have to use a DSLR, and the lens kit is just fine.

Hi there, where did u buy your D40 ?

Neither... I'd say get a prosumer cam first. You may not even feel the need for a DSLR after using a prosumer, and a prosumer wil let you get familiar with aperture, shutter speed, ISO, custom white balance, etc.

I bought it from John xxx (sorry, forgot the rest of the company name), a camera shop at Funan. Just slightly higher than the rest, $960 (Lord's for example is $940), but it's ok.

I finally was able to catch them with not much people around while waking around, so I got good service, where the salesman was obliging to meticulously put in a $5 LCD screen protector for me. Added in a $10 52mm Hoya UV filter (more for protecting the lens front), and all set to go.

Used both before. I find D100 is better than D70 but D70s is better than D100 in terms of image quality. D100 is still slightly faster.

does anyone know where to get the LCD Protector for D40? or is it even available on the market?

This thread will be closed as it has way OT.

Please feel free to start a new thread for other topics except for consumer type of questions that is not generic to Nikon.

Thank You
